An inside view of LulzSec's hacking rampage
On June 2, hacktivist collective "LulzSec" burst onto the cybersecurity scene with a splashy exploit: It published a trove of data stolen from 1 million user accounts on Sony's website.
LulzSec's website immediately crashed under a massive traffic attack from foes seeking to hack the hackers. Within the hour, LulzSec signed up for a website optimization service called CloudFlare -- and nine minutes later, its site was back online.
That's how CloudFlare, a Silicon Valley startup with a staff of 30, found itself in the middle one of the year's biggest cybersecurity battles.

Inside An Anonymous Attack: A Victim’s Insight
Last year, hacker group ‘Anonymous’ attacked Security firm Imperva’s application defense center for 25 days. Yesterday Imperva released a report detailing the anatomy of an Anonymous attack, using data gleaned from their first hand experience. By analyzing traffic logs from the days of their attack, Imperva believes they were able to identify patterns and trends that can help companies understand and prepare for a future attack, if they should become an Anonymous target.

Britain plans reform of the European court of human rights
Further British judicial powers should be wrestled back from Strasbourg and courts given enhanced latitude in interpreting decisions, according to a leaked draft of the British plan for reforming the European court of human rights.
The 12-page document circulated to the other 46 member states of the Council of Europe is intended to cut the backlog of cases waiting to be heard at Strasbourg and empower national courts.

EU Censorship Plan With A Cheesy Name: The Clean IT Project
A couple of weeks ago, Techdirt reported on UK politicians calling for ISPs to "take down" terrorist content. Now it seems that the idea has not only spread to other European countries, but even acquired a cheesy name: "the Clean IT Project".
The internet plays a central role and is of great strategic importance for terrorists and extremist networks. These networks know that propaganda is a critical tool for generating funding, recruits and support for their cause within these communities. Historically they have used a variety of media channels, such as television, radio and publishing, in order to communicate their views. During the past decade of huge global growth of the internet, Al Qaida influenced extremists for example, have made increasing use of this medium. The internet and its fast and anonymous means can contribute to individual radicalization processes. There are concerns about the illegal use of the internet for terrorist purposes and the misuse of legal / neutral websites. The question is if we can limit the use of internet for terrorist purposes, without affecting our online freedom. Therefore this project is based on a public-private dialogue.</p>

The tweets that homeland security spooks look for
The Department of Homeland Security monitors your updates on social networks, including Facebook and Twitter, to uncover “Items Of Interest” (IOI), according to an internal DHS document released by the EPIC. That document happens to include a list of the baseline terms for which the DHS–or more specifically, a DHS subcontractor hired to monitor social networks–use to generate real-time IOI reports. (Although the released PDF is generally all reader-selectable text, the list of names was curiously embedded as an image of text, preventing simple indexing. We’ve fixed that below.)

Military Seizes 120 Helmets from the Knights Templar in Michoacan
During a routine patrol through the village El Mirador, a town of Apatzingan, Michoacan, the Mexican Army seized a total of 120 helmets, similar to those used centuries ago in the era of the Crusades, and were secured during a military operation in Michoacan.
The helmets were allegedly used in ceremonies and rites of passage for members of the criminal group known as the Knights Templar.

Drugs Gangs Are 'Taking Control Of Parts Of British Cities' Warns UN
Drugs gangs are taking control of sections of British cities such as Birmingham, Liverpool and Manchester, a United Nations drugs chief has said.
Celebrities 'normalising' drug use, as well as a widening gap between the rich and poor are among the reasons that "no-go areas are developing in certain cities, warned Professor Hamid Ghodse, president of the UN's International Narcotics Control Board (INCB).
Migration is another reason citied for the "vicious cycle of social exclusion, drugs problems and fractured communities" in certain areas.
