Premiere wechselt Verschlüsselungssystem
Der deutsche Pay-TV-Sender Premiere hat bekannt gegeben, dass er ab Herbst dieses Jahres Nagravision als neues Verschlüsselungssystem einsetzen werde. Premiere-Kunden sollen hierfür eine neue SmartCard erhalten, die sie gegen die alte SmartCard in ihrem Digital-Receiver austauschen. Die SmartCard ist der Schlüssel zu den Abo-TV-Angeboten von Premiere.

Elite Iraqi Column Heads for U.S. Force
A huge column of elite Republican Guard units streamed out of Baghdad Wednesday evening heading toward U.S. forces massed near the southern Iraqi city of Najaf, CNN television reported.
"A major column including about 1,000 Iraqi mobile units that might include tanks, might include armored personnel carriers, trucks and other things are on their way down from Baghdad toward Najaf," CNN said, quoting one of its reporters who is traveling with the U.S. 7th Cavalry.

Gulf war syndrome research reveals present danger
A week into the invasion of Iraq and news networks are beaming home images of American and British soldiers donning gas masks and body suits to protect themselves from potential chemical weapons attack.
The troops have practised the drills, and are carrying the best high-tech chemical detectors an army can buy. The US marines even have a brand new piece of kit: pigeons, which act like canaries in a 19th-century coal mine. The birds are so sensitive to nerve agents such as sarin and VX that they fall ill at a whiff of danger.

Sonne bringt Schneemann über´s Jahr
Technische Fachhochschule Berlin - Mit dem Frühling scheint der Winter vergessen. Nicht so an der Technischen Fachhochschule Berlin, denn dort wird ein Schneemann über den Sommer gebracht. Die Sonne selbst - sonst natürlicher Feind des Schneemanns - ist es, die dem freundlichen weißen Mann hilft, einen kühlen Kopf zu bewahren.

A German artist has made a snowman which he says will survive until next winter - thanks to the sun.
Joerg Jozwiak's snowman is being kept in a glass-doored, solar-powered fridge.
The classic three-ball snowman will be kept at a steady -5C thanks to solar cells.

The give and take of black holes
Scientists have found evidence of high-speed winds blowing away vast amounts of gas from the cores of two quasar galaxies. "The winds we measured imply that as much as a billion suns' worth of material is blown away over the course of a quasar's lifetime," says George Chartas, of the Penn State Astronomy and Astrophysics Department, US, who led the observations.

Opposition leader claims Hussein died of cancer in '99
The Bush administration has concluded the U.S.-led "decapitation" attack failed to take out Saddam Hussein, but an Iraqi opposition leader claims a higher authority already got the job done.
Moslem al-Asadi, a doctor living in exile in Iran, said he believes the real Saddam died in 1999 from cancer.

Anti-war hacking rises dramatically
More than 20,000 websites have been hacked since the war on Iraq began according to one security firm.
UK security firm F-Secure has seen a dramatic rise in the number of hack attacks since the conflict started last week.
In the first few days of the conflict there was a flurry of attempts to access vulnerablities on websites such as that of the US Navy.

- März 2003 Nordkorea hat am Mittwoch die regelmäßigen Kontakte zum UN-Kommando entlang der innerkoreanischen Grenze abgebrochen. Die nordkoreanische Volksarmee erklärte am Mittwoch, sie werde künftig keine Verbindungsoffiziere mehr zu den wöchentlichen Treffen mit amerikanischen Vertretern schicken.

Patriotismus auf allen Kanälen. Doch fürchtet die amerikanische Öffentlichkeit eher, dass der Welt in diesen Tagen eine Katastrophe droht. Viele Amerikaner fühlen sich derzeit wie Figuren in den Hollywood-Thrillern der fünfziger Jahre: wie der bedauernswerte Wohnungsbesitzer etwa, der von einem ausgebrochenen Sträfling gefangen gehalten wird, wie der Normalbürger, der versehentlich ins Irrenhaus eingeliefert, oder der Unschuldige, der fälschlicherweise ins Gefängnis gesteckt worden ist.
