SAS force 'already in Iraq'


Special Air Service forces were now almost certainly operating in Iraq, military analysts said last night.

"Commanders may have been waiting for the green light from the Prime Minister. It's fair to say that if they (the SAS) weren't there, they are in there now," Australian National University defence analyst Alan Dupont told The Australian.

Little Sleep Impairs Mind as Much as No Sleep


Many nights of little sleep--fewer than six hours a night--can impair mental performance as much as not getting a wink for two nights in a row, new research shows. The 48 participants in the study were divided into four groups that slept either four, six or eight hours a night for two weeks, or had no sleep for three days. The groups were monitored in a laboratory throughout the two weeks to ensure that they did not nod off or use caffeine.

TERROR SUSPECTS HELD


Three terror suspects have been arrested and explosive devices recovered near Gatwick airport, police have said.

The three Europeans were detained in Langley Green near Crawley, Sussex, after two explosive devices were found.

They are being held at an undisclosed police station in Sussex.

Protection eased for gray wolves


The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service eased federal protection for gray wolves on Tuesday, a move made possible by its work to reintroduce the predator to the mountain West.

The switch from "endangered" to "threatened" applies to wolves in most areas of the country, the service announced.
