Music Labels Set to Bite the Apple
Apple Computer is close to inking a deal with the major record labels for a fee-based music subscription services for users of its Mac OS, a somewhat surprising move from a company that has heavily hyped the operating system's "rip, mix, burn" capabilities.

Penguins stop swimming in circles
The 52 penguins at the San Francisco Zoo have finally decided they have better things to do than hang around the pool all day, swimming in circles. Now, it's time to hang around the house.

Wrong number leads to pot arrests
Police found more than 75 marijuana plants inside a house after a woman who lived there mistakenly called 911 instead of 411.
Police said the woman dialed 911 shortly after 11:20 a.m. Tuesday. When she hung up, a police dispatcher called the number right back, and someone hung up again, police Sgt. Dan Rose said.
Two officers went to the house and found 76 plants valued at $76,000 growing in a room with sophisticated lighting. Officers also found three handguns and other weapons inside the house.

Federal authorities in Des Moines, Iowa, were called to the city's airport after a peanut butter sandwich was reported stolen.

Google's Memory Upgrade
How Blogger could do more than improve Google's Web searches.
Why did Google buy Blogger? Ever since the news leaked a few weeks ago, the Web has been awash with speculation. So far, most theorizing has focused on the ways that Blogger could enhance Google's ability to search for Web pages. But the Blogger acquisition could open up an entirely new service for Google. Instead of just helping you find new things, Google could help you keep track of what you've already found. Right now Google is a kind of information detective, and a brilliant one at that. But it could be something more: an extension of your memory.
