School toilets cause stink across Europe

Smelly, dirty, school toilets are a problem across Europe and new legislation is needed to improve standards, researchers say.

The facilities lack ambience, are unhygienic, are a magnet for bullies and can increase the risk of constipation and incontinence.

"Going to the toilet is more than just a physical reflex. The whole ambience must be comfortable and this was not the case in the majority of these toilets," said Sue Vernon, of the University of Newcastle upon Tyne.

The war after next

The war machine of the future is on its way. Unstoppable and invulnerable, it moves at terrifying speed, giving opponents no time to react. Enemies will not even see their human opponents, just a front line bristling with robots, unmanned aircraft and remote sensors.

This is the US army's future combat system (FCS), which will reach a critical decision point in April. If it is judged successful, within just five years the US will field a revolutionary new force.

Security Flaw Exposes 35 Million AOL Accounts

UPDATED The accounts of millions of AOL subscribers were jeopardized this week due to a serious flaw in the company's Web-based mail system, BetaNews has learned.

The vulnerability stems from an error in one of AOL's international e-mail authentication systems, which granted users access without correctly verifying passwords. By simply entering an account name, an AOL user had the ability to read any other user's e-mail and all personal data contained therein.

They range from "Bill The Butcher” Poole (a.k.a. "Bill The Butcher” Cutting, portrayed by Daniel Day-Lewis) to political dealmaker William M. "Boss” Tweed, played by Jim Broadbent.

Japanese Smileys (Emoticons)

The difference between eastern(1 byte) Smileys(Emoticons) and Japanese ones(2 bytes) Apparently Japanese Smileys(Emoticons) are read vertically, when eastern Smileys(Emoticons) are read hosizontally. And Japanese face marks have much more kinds of variation than eastern ons. I think the reason is that while American(alphabet) letters in computer are 1 byte, Japanese letters in computer are 2 bytes, so Japanese letters can have more caracters. And also, Japanese sentences contain Chinise caracters which are phonograms, so it is easier to express and recognize something graphic with letters for Japanese people.
