Keine EU-Angleichung bei Coffeeshops
Beim Treffen der EU-Justizminister in Brüssel am Donnerstag und Freitag (28./29.11.2002) lehnte der niederländische Justizminister Donner erneut die Forderung einiger anderer EU-Länder ab , die Strafen für den Verkauf geringer Mengen Cannabis in den Niederlanden auf ein Jahr Haft anzuheben. Dänemark, das bis Jahresende den EU-Vorsitz hat, verschob daraufhin eine Entscheidung. Besonders Schweden und Frankreich hatten versucht, die Niederlande zu einer Änderung ihrer Toleranzpolitik zu Coffeeshops zu bewegen.

Tattooing robot unveiled at hi-tech trade fair
An Austrian electrician has invented the world's first tattooing robot. Niki Passath, 25, has unveiled his creation, which he calls Freddy, at a hi-tech fair in Vienna. Mr Passath said: "It was a hard job because the only person I could test it on was myself which was painful but a good incentive to get it right as soon as possible.

Digital image stored in single molecule
An image composed of over 1000 of bits of information can be stored in the atoms of a single molecule, US researchers have shown.
Bing Fung and colleagues at the University of Oklahoma found that the 19 hydrogen atoms in a lone liquid crystal molecule can store at least 1024 bits of information. The data are stored in the complex interaction of the protons' magnetic moments.

UK unveils Iraq 'torture' dossier
A dossier of human rights abuses allegedly perpetrated by the Iraqi regime, including torture and rape, has been released by the UK Government. Foreign Secretary Jack Straw said the report was needed so "people understand the comprehensive evil that is Saddam Hussein".

Temelin's 1st unit shut down
The first unit of the Temelin power plant was shut down for about a month according to a plan last night. It is to resume operation in January, spokesman Milan Nebesar said. The plant is thus trying to save fuel, Nebesar said.

Dutch 'Hash and Weed Festival' Hailed
It was the start of the Hash and Weed Festival, which runs through Sunday. The aging pioneers of the Dutch marijuana culture, watched by hundreds of young aficionados, gathered in a gymnasium to mark the 30th anniversary of the first "coffee shop" that openly sold reefers like cups of coffee.

Cypress Hill Rapper Dreams Of Cheech And Chong Reunion
and he ist not the only one.
Everybody's needs a dream and for Cypress Hill rapper B-Real, it's the idea that Cheech and Chong will one day reunite for a movie. B-Real, who recently booked Tommy Chong on his Smoke Out festival in L.A., believes a new Cheech and Chong film would be a blockbuster, because folks have been without their comedy team-up for so long.
Although Cheech supposedly won't go back to the stoner genre because he's afraid it will hurt "his serious acting career," B-Real thinks otherwise.

Amerika tickt anders, und was sein Rechtssystem angeht, manchmal auch nicht ganz richtig: Die Klagewut der US-Anwälte ist so notorisch wie die Höhe erzielter Entschädigungszahlungen legendär. Über die Auswüchse des US-Rechtssystems kursieren im Web unglaubliche Nachrichten - manche so hartnäckig, dass sie am Ende wahr werden.

Auftragsmorde sollen in Deutschland verboten werden
Mit Waffen kennt man sich in Suhl bestens aus. Wer die Homepage dieser Gemeinde aufruft, der erfährt, dass Suhl die "Stadt der Büchsenmacher im Thüringer Wald" ist, dass im dortigen Waffenmuseum im Sommer eine Kalschnikow-Ausstellung gezeigt wurde, und wer sich dann noch ein bisschen weiter umsieht, der liest, dass schon vor 1500 in Suhl Feuerwaffen hergestellt worden.

Der EU-Rat für Justiz und Inneres berät in Brüssel über den Austausch personenbezogener Daten zwischen Europol und den USA. Britische Bürgerrechtler kritisieren das Abkommen als Verstoß gegen den Datenschutz.
