Wittgenstein’s Handles
What was it about handles—door-handles, axe-handles, the handles of pitchers and vases—that transfixed thinkers in Vienna and Berlin during the early decades of the twentieth century, echoing earlier considerations of handles in America and ancient Greece? Ludwig Wittgenstein, as everyone knows, abandoned philosophy after publishing his celebrated Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus in 1921. He took up gardening instead, in a monastic community on the outskirts of Vienna, where he camped out for a few months in a toolshed. It was in part to draw him back into “the world” that his sister Margarete (Gretl) invited him to join the architect Paul Engelmann in designing her new house, a rigorous Modernist structure that, much changed, now houses the Bulgarian Embassy.

One of the World's Largest Botnets Has Vanished
With no warning, one of the world's largest criminal botnets—a massive collection of computers used to launch attacks—has disappeared. Researchers have reported huge drops in traffic for two of the most popular pieces of malware which rely on it. “We can only tell that the Dridex and Locky spam campaigns stopped since June 1 in our observation. We cannot confirm how the botnet was brought down yet,” Joonho Sa, a researcher for cybersecurity company FireEye, told Motherboard in an email.

32m Twitter passwords may have been hacked and put up for sale on the Dark Web
Just days after Facebook czar Mark Zuckerberg’s social media accounts were found to be hacked, it appears that more folks will need to change their passwords.
ZDNet reported that a Russian hacker claimed to have a massive cache of millions of Twitter account logins for sale, for 10 bitcoins or about $5,807. LeakedSource, which indexes hacked credentials from data breaches, noted in a blog post that the database, of which it received a copy, contains more than 32 million accounts.

A Brief Introduction to the Pro-Holocaust Twitterverse
Donald Trump has expressed no interest in opening up death camps for Jews should he win the presidency, but his ardent supporters on the racist right have their hopes.
If there’s one thing I hate more than Illinois Nazis, it’s Twitter Nazis. Correction. I don’t hate them. Mainly I pity them, because their souls are so corroded, and because they are so pathetically frightened by Jews and blacks and Mexicans and gays and change and their own confused sexual identities (they are obsessed with “cocks” and “faggots”) and pluralism and, by the way, Hillary Clinton.

Jake Appelbaum
Hi. I’m Nick Farr. (@nickf4rr) I used to be a pretty effective organizer working behind the scenes at Hacker Events in Europe and on various projects back in the USA. After a deliberate campaign of abuse orchestrated by Jake Appelbaum at the 30c3, I don’t feel safe or welcome in the community anymore. In fact, I physically shut down every time I get close to going back.
He said, they said A number of people are now coming forward with details of the long record of sexual misconduct committed by Jacob Appelbaum. The stories I have read are entirely consistent with my own experiences being sexually involved with Jacob in 2006-2007.
Jacob Appelbaum allegedly intimidated victims into silence and anonymity This story contains graphic details of alleged sexual assault. In the wake of programmer Jacob Appelbaum’s abrupt departure from the Tor Project, rumors and accusations about both sexual misconduct and bullying have surfaced that extend back years. Appelbaum was suspended without pay for two weeks from the Tor Project in March 2015 as a result of an internal complaint filed against him due to harassing behavior toward other employees, according to sources within the Tor Project.
Statement on Jacob Appelbaum In light of the allegations that have been made, Jacob Appelbaum is no longer a member of our outside volunteer technical advisory board. We hope that the serious accusations made against him, and his denial of them, are resolved as fairly and as expeditiously as possible.
JacobAppelbaumLeavesTor Disclaimer: This is a place for me to collect evidence and news on the story. I am currently not personally or professionally involved with anyone from the Tor Project, therefore do not send me inquiries asking for official comments from them other than what I have included here. I will source everything as thoroughly as possible; however, just because I include information or sources here does not mean I agree or disagree with it/ them. Austria's far-right party challenges election defeat
Austria's far-right Freedom Party (FPO) on Wednesday (8 June) filed a legal challenge at the constitutional court alleging "terrifying" irregularities in the presidential election two weeks ago in which their candidate narrowly lost. "We are not sore losers. This is about protecting the very foundations of democracy," FPO leader Heinz-Christian Strache was quoted as saying in Vienna by the AFP news agency.

Austria’s crackdown on immigration is denting its economy
Faced with a record-breaking refugee crisis over the past year, some European countries have resorted to strict measures to stem the flow of migrants and asylum seekers arriving at their borders. Austria, in particular, has made it difficult for refugees to enter the country. In February 2016, for example, the country imposed a daily cap on the number of asylum seekers that could enter from its southern border—limiting it to just 80 a day. (In 2015 the country received 90,000 asylum claims, equivalent to 1% of its population.)

FBI wants access to Internet browser history without a warrant in terrorism and spy cases
The Obama administration is seeking to amend surveillance law to give the FBI explicit authority to access a person’s Internet browser history and other electronic data without a warrant in terrorism and spy cases. The administration made a similar effort six years ago but dropped it after concerns were raised by privacy advocates and the tech industry. FBI Director James B. Comey has characterized the legislation as a fix to “a typo” in the Electronic Communications Privacy Act, which he says has led some tech firms to refuse to provide data that Congress intended them to provide.

FBI: Exploit that revealed Tor-enabled child porn users wasn’t malware
A federal judge in Virginia has ruled that a case against Edward Matish, a man accused of downloading child pornography, should stand—preserving the defendant’s upcoming trial date. Also on Wednesday, an FBI agent explicitly denied that the "network investigative technique" (NIT) used to locate Matish and break through his Tor-enabled defenses is malware.

Jacob Appelbaum
Jacob Appelbaum leaves the Tor Project
This is what I could gather:
25.5. - Shepard posts bfb9a7c833a5fc8f5a938d816b1bbc4acaa06519fdb1af4c8632719596807dac on Twitter
2.6. - Tor project extremely briefly announces that Applebaum leaves Tor
3.6. - Shepard reveals the hash was sha256("It seems one rapist is one rapist too many\n")
3.6. - Meredith L. Patterson says Applebaum raped enough people that Tor org could no longer ignore it
Confirmed: Jacob Appelbaum left Tor amid sexual harassment complaints
Those who have worked with Jake won't be surprised at all by this. These are accusations coming from multiple people in the tech/privacy/infosec crowd, not from the government.
For those thinking these are government-sponsored lies, do you think Meredith Patterson of Status 451 Blog is working with the government?
blog.torproject.org/blog/jacob-appelbaum-leaves-tor-project … is a gross disservice to the Tor community. People deserve to know why Tor evicted its resident sociopath.
Tor had the chance to nip this in the bud back when Jake was just a plagiarist. They ignored it, and he graduated to sexual assault.
.@mmeijeri Jake finally raped enough people that Tor as an organisation couldn't ignore it anymore.
