Pratchett fordert Recht auf Sterbehilfe
Großbritannien debattiert zurzeit intensiv über das Thema Sterbehilfe. Der Grund sind zwei gegensätzliche Gerichtsurteile. In die Kontroverse pro und kontra Sterbehilfe hat sich jetzt eine berühmte Stimme eingeschaltet: der Bestsellerautor Terry Pratchett. Pratchett leidet selbst unter Alzheimer. In einer Ansprache in der BBC, die mittlerweile alle britischen Medien beschäftigt, plädiert er für einen Handschlag mit dem Tod - und ein Recht auf ein selbstbestimmtes Sterben.

Terry Pratchett ready to be test case for suicide law
Sir Terry Pratchett says he is ready to be a test case for assisted suicide "tribunals" which could give people legal permission to end their lives.
The author, who has Alzheimer's, says he wants a tribunal set up to help those with incurable diseases end their lives with help from doctors.

Julianna Mandernach filed the suit in Cook County Circuit Court against the Northeast Illinois Regional Commuter Railroad Corp. and Metra, claiming the Jan. 29, 2009, incident left her with injuries of a “personal and pecuniary nature.”

Interessant ist das in erster Linie für Surfer, die um Datenschutz und Identifizierbarkeit im Netz besorgt sind – außer über Cookies, Session-ID oder IP-Adresse ermöglicht der Fingerabdruck des Browsers unter Umständen recht zuverlässig, seinen Besitzer zu erkennen.

Massive Sicherheitslecks bei Funk-Überwachungskameras
Kommerziell und privat genutzte Funk-Überwachungskameras weisen massive Sicherheitslücken auf. Das ergaben Recherchen von Niedersachsen 19.30 und der ARD-Tagesthemen. Die bundesweit tausendfach eingesetzten Kameras könnten ohne größeren technischen Aufwand unbemerkt von Dritten angezapft werden. Alleine in Hannover sind nach Schätzungen von Fachleuten Hunderte solcher Kameras in Einzelhandel, Gewerbe und bei Privatleuten im täglichen Einsatz. Dabei handelt es sich um sogenannte analoge Funkkameras, die ihre Daten kabellos auf einen Bildschirm übertragen. Die so übermittelten Daten können mithilfe eines Funkempfängers von Unbefugten unbemerkt aufgezeichnet und verbreitet werden. Solche Empfänger werden bereits für weniger als 100 Euro angeboten und können von jedermann gekauft werden.

Historical Development: Could a Frozen Camera Dethrone Hillary and Norgay as the First to Summit Everest?
Photo detective work could solve an enigma nearly nine decades old. But will it vindicate Hillary's historic climb or rewrite the record books?
On June 8, 1924, George Mallory and Andrew Irvine left their camp less than a kilometer from the summit of Mount Everest on a mission to be the first mountaineers to ascend the world's highest peak (8,850 meters). They were never to be heard from again. Whether either man reached the summit—almost three decades before Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay's historic 1953 climb—has been an open question for nearly 86 years.
Although more than half a dozen expeditions have gone to Everest in subsequent years to determine the outcome of Mallory and Irvine's expedition (a 1999 search turned up Mallory's body), none have returned with definitive answers. The key to solving the mystery, many climbers say, is finding Irvine's remains and with it the missing Vest Pocket Kodak (VPK) camera he was supposedly carrying with him on that fateful journey.

'Catcher in the Rye' author J.D. Salinger dies
J.D. Salinger, the legendary author, youth hero and fugitive from fame whose "The Catcher in the Rye" shocked and inspired a world he increasingly shunned, has died. He was 91.
Salinger died of natural causes at his home on Wednesday, the author's son, actor Matt Salinger, said in a statement from Salinger's longtime literary representative, Harold Ober Associates, Inc. He had lived for decades in self-imposed isolation in a small, remote house in Cornish, N.H.
