Denver City Council passes pot rules that allow smoking on private property, even in public view
Denver's City Council voted Monday to allow residents to smoke marijuana in a front yard or on a balcony, even if they can be seen from the street or sidewalk.
Jeremy Meyer, City Hall reporter for our partners at The Denver Post, tweeted that the council voted 10-3 to approve the bill that allows "front-yard" smoking of marijuana.

Eva Menasse ist nicht glücklich mit der heutigen Presse. Der Guardian schrieb, eine "Gruppe deutscher Schriftsteller" habe den Aufruf der Autoren gegen globale Überwachung gestartet. Dabei ist schon die Runde der Initiatoren international besetzt, sagt die gebürtige Österreicherin, hier im Berliner Tagungszentrum der Bundespressekonferenz: Janne Teller lebt in Dänemark, Priya Basil in Großbritannien, Isabel Fargo in den USA, Josef Haslinger und Ilija Trojanow in Wien. Doch die in Berlin wohnende Menasse kann sich entspannen: Weltweit haben mittlerweile Zehntausende den Aufruf der sieben Schriftsteller unterzeichnet, mit dem die Gruppe um Juli Zeh – die lebt in Brandenburg – und Menasse gegen die Kommunikationsüberwachung protestiert.

Britische und US-Geheimdienste haben Medienberichten zufolge millionenfach genutzte Online-Rollenspiele ausgespäht. Die US-Dienste CIA und NSA sowie der britische GCHQ haben demnach Undercover-Agenten in die Spielwelten von World of Warcraft und Second Life geschickt, berichteten der Guardian, ProPublica und die New York Times. Sie beriefen sich auf geheime Dokumente des Whistleblowers Edward Snowden. Die Geheimdienste hätten sich außerdem Zugang zu dem Netzwerk der Microsoft-Spielekonsole Xbox verschafft, das weltweit fast 50 Millionen Nutzer hat.

A top secret document retrieved by American whistleblower Edward Snowden reveals Canada has set up covert spying posts around the world and conducted espionage against trading partners at the request of the U.S. National Security Agency.
The leaked NSA document being reported exclusively by CBC News reveals Canada is involved with the huge American intelligence agency in clandestine surveillance activities in “approximately 20 high-priority countries."

Fela Kuti - Music Is The Weapon
The documentary "Fela Kuti Music is the Weapon" wit the Afrobeat legend, political revolutionary, musician, composer and performer, mixes footage of Fela Anikulapo Kuti performing at his Shrine nightclub, interviews with the controversial musician, glimpses of life at his not-so-palatial Kalakuta Republic compound, and scenes of Lagos street life. Some voice-over narration gives basic information on Kuti's musical career and Nigerian politics, but for the most part, the images are left to speak for themselves. Well shot in color, it's an important historical document capturing Kuti in stage and home environments that were most crucial to his life and work.

Intensiv wurde in den vergangenen Monaten über die Überwachung des Internets diskutiert, hat sich doch anhand der Enthüllungen von Edward Snowden gezeigt, welch massive Spionage die NSA oder der britische GCHQ betreiben. Nicht zuletzt über das Abzweigen von Glasfaserkabeln ist es den Geheimdiensten gelungen eine beinahe flächendeckende Überwachung zu etablieren.
