Northern Soul: Keeping The Faith
In my opinion, this is the best documentary about the Northern Soul scene to date, it's been done with love and affection. Thankfully, there is no mention of the notorious Frank Wilson 45. Most documentaries covering the music that I love make me cringe, this one gives me goosebumps.

Leary's archives, which have just become available to the public, are filled with digital surprises -- including MacPaint artwork by Keith Haring and several self-help programs that might be considered crude precursors to modern brain-training software.

Heroin, Kokain und Cannabis kosten immer weniger. Die Qualität der Substanzen ist hingegen deutlich gestiegen. Das belegt eine groß angelegte Studie. Die Forscher glauben deshalb: Der globale Kampf gegen die Drogenmafia ist verloren.
Mit aller Härte vorgehen gegen illegale Drogen und die Kartelle dahinter - was Politiker und Polizei propagieren, zeigt offenbar kaum Wirkung. Der globale Krieg gegen Drogen steht einer Studie zufolge vor dem Scheitern. Nicht nur sei das Angebot von Heroin, Kokain und Cannabis in den USA und der EU weiter ungebrochen, zudem seien die Preise gefallen und die Qualität habe sich verbessert, heißt es in der am Montag in der Fachzeitschrift "BMJ Open" veröffentlichten Studie. Die Forscher untersuchten dafür Daten von sieben staatlichen Programmen, die über mehr als ein Jahrzehnt die Entwicklung auf dem internationalen Drogenmarkt verfolgten.

Ungarn verbietet Obdachlosen das Übernachten im Freien
Für Obdachlose in Ungarn wird das Leben künftig noch schwerer. Das Parlament in Budapest hat am Montagabend ein umstrittenes Gesetz beschlossen, das ihnen das Schlafen auf Straßen und Plätzen untersagt.
Künftig haben Städte und Gemeinden das Recht, Obdachlose nach Belieben aus bestimmten Gegenden auszuweisen. All jenen, die sich nicht an das Verbot halten, drohen Geld- und Gefängnisstrafen. Die neue Regelung ist das Ergebnis einer Verfassungsänderung vom Februar dieses Jahres. Die Regierung begründete den Schritt mit der Sorge "um die öffentliche Ordnung und Sicherheit, die allgemeine Gesundheit und kulturelle Werte".

U.S. Government: Sorry, We're Closed
The U.S. government shut down at 12:01 a.m. ET Tuesday after lawmakers in the House and the Senate could not agree on a spending bill to fund the government.
The two sides bickered and blamed each other for more than a week over Obamacare, the president's signature health care law. House Republicans insisted the spending bill include anti-Obamacare amendments. Senate Democrats were just as insistent that it didn't.
