ACTA im Europaparlament: EU Handels-Kommissar will bei Ablehnung einfach nochmal abstimmen
Der EU-Kommissar für Handel rückt noch immer nicht von ACTA ab. Falls das EU-Parlament das umstrittene Anti-Produktpiraterie-Handelsabkommen am nächsten Mittwoch ablehnt, will er einfach die Abstimmung wiederholen. Deutlicher kann man nicht sagen, dass einem die Meinung des Parlaments egal ist.
Nächsten Mittwoch 12 Uhr stimmt das Europäische Parlament über ACTA ab. Obwohl wir 5:0 führen, müssen weiterhin Abgeordnete überzeugt werden, gegen das Handelsabkommen zu stimmen.
Dem Kommissar für Handel Karel De Gucht ist die Entscheidung jedoch egal. In einer Rede an das Parlament sagte er:
Falls sie sich für eine negatives Votum entscheiden, lassen Sie mich Ihnen sagen, dass die Kommission auch weiterhin das derzeitige Verfahren vor dem Gericht verfolgen wird. Ein negatives Votum wird das Verfahren vor dem Gerichtshof nicht beenden. […]
Ich erwarte, dass das Gericht befindet, dass ACTA in vollem Einklang mit den Verträgen ist.
In diesem Fall werden wir […] einen zweiten Antrag auf Genehmigung an das Europäische Parlament stellen. Ob das Parlament das in dieser oder nächster Wahlperiode betrachten wird, liegt an Ihnen. </p>

EU-Gipfel im unsichtbaren Hochsicherheitstrakt
Im September wird ein EU-Forschungsprojekt zu polizeilichen Großlagen getestet: "Terroristische" Gefahren sollen ebenso wie alkoholisierte Fans automatisiert aufgespürt werden
Unter Beteiligung deutscher und italienischer Rüstungsfirmen sowie weiterer Militärzulieferer verspricht ein EU-Forschungsprojekt mehr Sicherheit gegen "Hooliganismus" bei Fußballspielen und G8-Gipfeln. Der Sicherheitsgewinn wird mit der Bekämpfung von Terrorismus begründet. Gleichwohl soll die Auswertung mehrerer audiovisueller und Sprengstoff suchender Sensoren nebst anderen "Sicherheitsscannern" auch bei der Handhabung "herkömmlicher Gewalt" helfen. Das Vorhaben ist dafür sogar mit einem höheren Budget als das umstrittene INDECT-Projekt ausgestattet.

Use of drones on the rise in Germany
More businesses are using unmanned aerial vehicles for surveillance and research. While the technology is cost-efficient and practical, some are worried about its potential to violate privacy and data protection laws.
The western-German town of Düren was in turmoil. A small drone was circling slowly and deliberately over the local school. The result: nervous residents, curious glances, frightened whispers. Many locals asked if this was a secret military operation or some sort of new state surveillance program. But in the end it turned out that a photo and film production company had been using the drone to make 360-degree aerial shots.

Drone Documents: Why The Government Won’t Release Them
The covert U.S. effort to strike terrorist leaders using drones has moved further out of the shadows this year — targeted killing has been mentioned by President Obama and defended in speeches by Attorney General Eric Holder and Obama counterterrorism adviser John Brennan. The White House recently declassified the fact that it is conducting military operations in Yemen and Somalia.
But for all the talk, the administration says it hasn't officially confirmed particular strikes or the CIA's involvement.

Quadcopter drone group held in London airport on suspicion of terrorism
Fresh from performing at Science Gallery in Dublin last night during the opening of Hack the City, an English group of urbanists, technologists and architects who created GPS-enabled quadcopter drones, were held at London Southend Airport on suspicion of terrorism and recorded under the UK’s Terrorism Act.
The group, known as Tomorrows Thoughts Today, had been performing their Electronic Countermeasures robotic ballet in the sky show at Science Gallery for the opening of the three-month Hack the City exhibition in Dublin City.

Filmmakers Use Drones to Spy on Facebook, Google HQs
Filmmaker and digital rights expert Caroline Campbell and visual artist Nina McGowan have teamed up to use customized drones to film unseen parts of Dublin city, including the inside of Facebook’s and Google’s headquarters.
Their film, Loitering Theatre, is part of the Science Gallery’s Hack the City exhibition, which aims to “tweak and mash up Dublin’s existing urban systems.”

30 Jahre "Blade Runner"
Bildgewaltig, philosophisch, desaströs: Wie ein Besessener hatte Ridley Scott an seinem neuen Sci-Fi-Film gebastelt - und dabei die Crew fast in den Wahnsinn getrieben. 1982 stellte er sein Werk einem Testpublikum vor. Doch die Zuschauer von "Blade Runner" verstanden nur Bahnhof.
Als das Licht anging, hätte man im großen Saal des Northpark Cinema in Dallas, Texas, ein Popcorn fallen hören können. "Es herrschte Totenstille", erinnert sich David DeHay an den Abend vom 6. März 1982. Fast 170 Meilen hatte der Lokalreporter zurückgelegt, aus seinem Heimatstädtchen Brownwood, den Highway 67 immer in nordöstlicher Richtung hinauf. Stundenlang hatte er in der Schlange gestanden, um einer der ersten auf der Welt zu sein, der "Blade Runner" sehen würde - den neuen Film des Regisseurs Ridley Scott, der drei Jahre zuvor mit seinem düsteren Weltraum-Horrorfilm "Alien" dem Science-Fiction-Genre das Fürchten gelehrt hatte. Und natürlich wegen Harrison Ford. Dem Mann, der als Weltraum-Cowboy Han Solo in "Krieg der Sterne" und als abenteuerlustiger Archäologieprofessor Indiana Jones in kürzester Zeit zum größten Star Hollywoods aufgestiegen war. Was für ein Traumpaar!

Americans are under threat from antibiotic-resistant superbugs, making us vulnerable to common, once treatable infections. A remarkable 80 percent of antibiotics sold in the U.S. are used not by humans, but by the meat and poultry industries so factory farm animals can grow faster and survive crowded and unsanitary conditions.
This is creating superbugs on the farm, and humans are exposed in a number of ways, including when we handle or eat undercooked meat. Our life-saving drugs are becoming less effective when we really need them. Unfortunately, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has refused to take meaningful action to restrict the use of unnecessary antibiotics in livestock production.

Der Verein Legalize verstößt gegen Wappengesetz
Ein kiffender Logo-Adler auf Flyern des Vereins "Legalize!" stört die Bezirkshauptmannschaft Dornbirn. Der Verein habe den Adler " welcher dem vom Wachkörper Bundespolizei verwendete täuschend ähnlich sieht", bei einer Demonstration in Wien auf einem Banner und auf Flugblättern gezeigt.
