EU data privacy regulations pose serious threat to UK business
The Direct Marketing Association (DMA) has raised industry concerns that the European Commission’s proposals for the comprehensive reform of data protection legislation could have serious financial consequences for UK plc.
The professional body, which represents the UK’s multi-billion pound direct marketing industry, fears that the EU’s new draft Data Protection Regulation poses a severe threat to the ability for UK businesses to use data to market their goods and services to consumers.

For Newt, ‘World War III’ Is Just the Beginning
Newt Gingrich doesn’t just want to lay waste to his political enemies and a large part of the news media. The former House speaker and presidential hopeful wants to bomb a significant part of the planet, too.
Gingrich is on the record favoring American military intervention from North Korea to Lebanon. He recently threatened cyberwar with China and Russia. And on Monday, he called for an all-out assault to topple the Castro regime in Cuba. With such a wide range of targets, no wonder Gingrich has consistently said that the U.S. is in the middle of “World War III.” His plans for overthrowing the Iranian government? Just the beginning. In fact, if President Gingrich encounters any little green men while building his moon base (!), they had better pray to their astral maker for mercy.

The Pentagon Is Doubling Down on Drones to Save Money
The Pentagon has a new game plan for a leaner military: fewer soldiers and more drones. Today, Defense Secretary Leon Panatta will unveil his department's $525 billion budget for the fiscal year of 2013, which includes $487 billion in cuts over the next decade. Details of the budget are beginning to leak out to reporters ahead of the press conference and, as a whole, paint a picture of a more specialized, low-profile military. Here's what we know so far.

Acta protests break out as EU states sign up to treaty
The UK and 21 other European Union member states on Thursday signed an international copyright agreement treaty called Acta (Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement), sparking more demonstrations by internet users who have protested for days both virtually and physically over fear it will lead to online censorship.
Following the signing, protesters rallied in the Polish cities of Poznan and Lublin to express their anger over the treaty. Lawmakers for the left-wing Palikot's Movement wore masks in parliament to show their dissatisfaction, while the largest opposition party the right-wing Law and Justice party called for a referendum on the matter.

Pic reunites Monty Python members
Members of Monty Python's Flying Circus are reteaming for "Absolutely Anything," a sci-fi farce combining CGI and live action, with Terry Jones to direct and Mike Medavoy to produce.
Plans are for filming to begin in the U.K. this spring, with the Pythons voicing key roles as a a group of aliens who endow an earthling with the power to do "absolutely anything" to see what a mess he'll make of things -- which is precisely what happens. There's also a talking dog named Dennis who seems to understand more about the mayhem that ensues than anyone else does. Robin Williams will voice the character.

Cocaine Sacks Worth $2m Shipped To UN Headquarters By Accident
Two sacks of cocaine have been accidentally delivered to the United Nations’ New York headquarters.
The 16kg shipment from Mexico was hidden in hollowed-out books inside pouches which were stamped with forgeries of the organisation’s logo.
UN diplomatic pouches are not meant to be searched, but when sorters were unable to find an address on them, they simply forwarded them to the organisation’s headquarters.
