EU citizens: █████ █ ████ everything ███ █████ is█████ ████ ████ fine ████ ███ ██████ trust ███ ██████ ███ your █████ ████ government.

Acta is a global inflection point for democracy: europe, japan, us, etc signed it. The ugly face of facism can wear various masks

Polish minister: "We are partners, not a subordinate parliament of Congress or the Obama administration"

By the way. #ACTA can NOT be considered made fully public, unless the documentation of the negotiations are released.

EU Commission propaganda on ACTA

The European Commission published a document in defense of ACTA, “10 Myths about ACTA“. It is pure propaganda. The document is widely distributed by polish authorities.

Let’s take a look.

Myth 1: ACTA is a secret agreement. Negotiations were not transparent and conducted “behind closed doors”. The European Parliament was not fully informed.

Commission: “The text of ACTA is publicly available to all.”

The final text is indeed available.

Commission: “The negotiations for ACTA were not different from negotiations on any other international agreement.”

That is not true. WTO and WIPO have much more transparency and input from NGOs.

Commission: “It is a fact that such agreements are not negotiated in public, but with the Lisbon Agreement and the revised Framework Agreement there are clear rules on how the EP should be informed of such trade negotiations. And these have been scrupulously followed.”

Still, the Parliament could not discuss the text openly. No feedback from experts possible. And earlier versions are still secret, while they may be important for interpertation in conflict resolution.

Commission: “Commissioner De Gucht has participated in three plenary debates, replied to several dozens of written and oral questions, as well to two Resolutions and one Declaration of the EP, whilst Commission services have provided several dedicated briefings to MEPs during the negotiations.” </p>

Pentagon drafts today’s kids to build tomorrow’s aerial killers

In a world where warfare is fast becoming fielded by remote controlled and autonomous robots, innovation is the key to victory. The most technologically advanced superpower can see more, plan better, and attack from further away than its inferior adversaries. What better to revolutionize the drone and robotics industry but the brilliant minds of our children? That’s what the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the Defense Department’s research and development arm, thinks too.

It’s the Adaptive Vehicle Make project through a pilot program called Manufacturing Experimentation and Outreach, and it’s slated to reach a thousand schools in and out of the country, roping in the brightest minds to develop robotics and advance technology in new and interesting ways.

ACTA - EP's role

On 26 January representatives of 22 EU countries signed the ACTA Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement in Tokyo. However, the agreement cannot enter into force until approved by the European Parliament - so, what's next?

The aim of the ACTA agreement - between the EU, the US, Australia, Canada, Japan, Mexico, Morocco, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea and Switzerland - is to strengthen the enforcement of intellectual property rights, including online, and to help combat counterfeiting and piracy of goods including luxury brand clothing, music and films.

The European Commission published its latest proposal on 24 June and the Trade Committee has been given responsibility for guiding the legislation through parliament. The Development, Civil Liberties, Legal Affairs and Industry committees will also have a say.

Was soll dieser Vertrag also bewirken?
