Geheimdienste alarmiert
In Polen geht die Aufregung um eine illegal veröffentlichte Agentenliste aus Ostblockzeiten mit rund 240.000 Personen weiter. Nach neuesten Erkenntnissen sollen sich auch die Namen aktiver Agenten darauf befinden: Die Geheimdienste sind nun alarmiert. Möglicher Schaden für das Informantennetz soll abgewendet werden. Experten warnen auch vor Manipulationen. Es sei ein Leichtes, Namen hinzuzufügen oder zu fälschen. Unterdessen entwickelt sich die "Geheimliste" zu einem wahren Renner: Die Seite ist zehnmal beliebter als polnische Sexseiten.

Few people are aware that before World War I, a 9-year-old girl could walk into a drug store and buy heroin.
That's right – heroin. She didn't need a doctor's prescription or a note from her parents. She could buy it right off the shelf. Bayer and other large drug companies sold heroin as a pain-reliever and sedative in measured doses – just the way aspirin is sold today. Cocaine, opium, and marijuana were readily available as well. No Drug Enforcement Agency, no undercover cops, no "Parents – the Anti-Drug" commercials. Just people going about their own business is whatever way they chose.

Berufsmusiker besonders krankheitsgefährdet
Mehr als drei Viertel der fast 12.000 Berufsmusiker in Deutschland haben berufsbedingte gesundheitliche Beschwerden, berichtete die Deutsche Gesellschaft für Physikalische Medizin und Rehabilitation in Jena. Besonders häufig sei der Stütz- und Bewegungsapparat betroffen, insbesondere die Wirbelsäule. Besonders betroffen seien Violinisten, Flötisten sowie Kontrabass- und Gitarrenspieler.

Group aims to drastically up disc storage
A few hundred movies on an optical disc? That's the goal of the Holographic Versatile Disc (HVD) Alliance.
Six companies, including Fuji Photo and CMC Magnentics, have formed a consortium to promote HVD technology, which will let consumers conceivably put a terabyte (1TB) of data onto a single optical disc.

Tiny computers
gumstix cluster - a pack of very small linux machines
One of the most intriguing uses to me seemed to be the clustering of these, and we have started to work on that in-house; hence, the picture you see here.
This is 4 waysmalls using an Ether Gadget with RNDIS plugged into a Windows XP machine, being bridged to a central DHCP server. Our hope is to make a cluster of at least a dozen gumstix available over the web for remote login. We plan to get distcc running on it and open it up to the community as a development cluster.

The operating center of the Moscow rescue service has recently received a very strange, albeit a very funny call. A 25-year-old Muscovite called and said that his girlfriend had pushed an electric toothbrush up his anus. The toothbrush was turned on during the process, the young man specified.
