Musings on the Moose
Chief Moose Fan Club
Why the popularity of 'The Moose'? I sit here, literally half-a-world away, musing on why Chief Charles Moose of the Montgomery County Police Force caused me to start this site ( with a little help from my friends of course ). Is it his understated charisma, his steely resolve or his way with words (duck in a noose anyone ?). For me it's all of these things.
BTW www.duckinanoose.com is taken

The New Politics of Pot
Time magazine has noticed Pot is an election issue
The drug czar is ready for pro wrestling. He already has the name, and now he's got the prefight talk down cold. In every speech he makes in Nevada, where Bush appointee John Walters has traveled to fight an initiative that would legalize marijuana, he calls out his three sworn enemies as if he were Tupac Shakur.

Chuck Yeager still has the right stuff
The 79-year-old legendary test pilot broke the sound barrier yesterday for what he said was the last time, more than a half-century after he became the first person to accomplish the feat. Yeager's first cracking of the sound barrier in 1947 was the crowning achievement in a career that included service in World War II and Vietnam. The feat was immortalized in the movie "The Right Stuff."

Feed your desire for serial killer knowledge
Any historical survey of serial murder would have to begin at least as far back as ancient Rome, when the Emperor Caligula was busily indulging his taste for torture and perversion. During the Middle Ages, depraved Aristocrats like Gilles de Rais (the original "Bluebeard") and Elizabeth Bathory (the "Blood Countess") fed their unholy lusts on the blood of hundreds of victims, while psychopathic peasants like Gilles Ganier and Peter Stubbe butchered their victims with such bestial ferocity that they were believed to be literal werewolves.

Seismic detonations planned
Scientists plan to shake things up a bit Monday near Marked Tree, when they detonate a 2,600-pound explosion within the New Madrid Seismic Zone. Through that explosion and a 5,000-pound explosion near Mooring, Tenn., scientists from the U.S. Geological Survey and the Center for Earthquake Research and Information at the University of Memphis hope to understand how the deep sand and clay in the Mississippi embayment affect the way seismic waves travel and therefore, how the ground shakes during an earthquake.
