Project Timber
Timbot = the Timber robot, Timber = Time as a basis for embedded real-time systems


Timbot is a robot vehicle that we have built and are using as an experimental platform for Project Timber, a DARPA funded research project (part of the PCES program) in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the OGI School of Science & Engineering at OHSU.

Google explains new page rankings


Some sanity returned to Google 's page rankings last week, and the only damage incurred appears to be a few bruised egos. So we were surprised when Wired adopted a note of faux outrage (hey! that's our job) in its coverage of the new index. "Geeks Aghast"! reported Paul Boutin: "The inevitable backlash finally appears to have hit the world's most popular search engine." Microsoft eases copy protection in XP


MICROSOFT IS EASING up on its copy protection technology in the upcoming release of its Windows XP Media Center Edition operating system, and will allow users to record TV shows onto CDs and DVDs and play them back on a variety of devices.

SWAT TEAM UK - Pensioner dies during police search


A 78-year-old woman has died while police searched her home near Staines in Surrey. Connie Sherwood collapsed while officers from Surrey Police searched her terraced council house in Viola Avenue, Stanwell, at 0600 BST on Wednesday. Her family said she was "frightened to death" by the dawn raid.
