If Saddam Disappears, Power Would Pass to His Sons Who Could Be Worse Than Their Father

If Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein is killed or somehow cut off, power would most likely pass to his sons, Uday or Qusay, and a wide variety of sources tell Newsweek that the sons could be worse than the father. The stories told about Saddam's sons, related to Newsweek by several Iraqi exiles and reported in the current issue, seem almost too grotesque to be true. Some are probably exaggerated, but not by much, according to a senior administration official who has access to CIA files on Saddam's sons. Qusay is "in the shadows," says this source. "We don't know much." But U.S. intelligence believes Qusay is Saddam's true heir apparent, for the simple reason that he controls the security that keeps his father in power and alive.

NATURAL BOOTY
A landscape photographer sees sex everywhere.

Poor Mother Nature, always getting caught with her pants down, exposed by the leering lens of "Earth erotica" photographer Heather Firth. Since her 1981 trip to the Sinai desert, Firth has been photographing nature in all its splendor: butt cracks in a quarry, glory holes in quicksand, thighs in the trees. She owes a debt to Adams, O'Keefe, Goldworthy and Tunick, but I had to meet for myself the woman who's redefining the term "hard rock."

How mobile phones let spies see our every move

Government's secret Celldar project will allow surveillance of anyone, at any time and anywhere there is a phone signal. The radical new system, which has outraged civil liberties groups, uses mobile phone masts to allow security authorities to watch vehicles and individuals 'in real time' almost anywhere in Britain.

Police Deluged by D.C. Sniper Tips

Sniper investigators said Monday they have been deluged with tips, including false alarms caused by fear and anxiety, as an edgy Washington area deals with the longest lull in the shootings since they began nearly two weeks ago.

Cars backfiring, windows shattering, firecrackers popping are among the noises residents have confused with gunshots, believing they are possibly related to the string of random shootings that hit 10 people, killing eight, since Oct. 2.

Archeology: Damnation of Crystal Skulls
He who reveals the secret will die

The skull was first discovered by the expedition headed by famous English archeologist F. Albert Mitchell-Hedges in Central America in 1927. Before that, the archeologist started clearing an ancient maya settlement in a damp tropical jungle in Yucatan (British Honduras at that time and currently Belize) in 1924. It was decided to burn down 33 hectares of forest covering the ancient constructions of the settlement to make the archeological dig easier. When the smoke lifted, the expedition saw amazing ruins of a stone pyramid, city walls, and a huge amphitheatre capable to seating thousands of spectators. The ancient settlement was called Lubaantun: The Place of the Fallen Stones.

Bizarre accident damages four cars

According to Sgt. James Burdick of the North Adams Police Department, James Hancock, 77, of 17 Pleasant St., Adams, was trying to park his 1988 Oldsmobile across from Jack's Hot Dogs at about 12:20 p.m. when it suddenly shot backward, knocking over a parking meter and smashing into the 2000 Honda parked behind it. The Oldsmobile's back wheels rolled up onto the Honda's rear bumper, and its back half landed on the Honda's hood.
