Pakistan hails second missile test a success

Pakistan has successfully test-fired a medium-range nuclear-capable ballistic missile, its second test within five days, defense officials have said.
The Shaheen-1 series test comes two days ahead of national polls, and on the final day of polling in Kashmir, the disputed region which has triggered two wars between India and Pakistan.

Blast-off for third British astronaut
British-born astronaut Piers Sellers has become the third person from the UK to go into space. Dr Sellers, 47, originally from Crowborough in East Sussex, is one of six astronauts on board the US space agency (Nasa) shuttle Atlantis heading for the International Space Station (ISS).

Netzradios mit Einnahmen von weniger als 1.250.000 US-Dollar pro Jahr werden damit verpflichtet, Musikern und Plattenfirmen Lizenzgebühren in Höhe von acht bis zwölf Prozent ihres Umsatzes beziehungsweise fünf bis sieben Prozent ihrer Ausgaben zu zahlen -- je nachdem, welcher Betrag höher ist. Für Netzradios mit Einnahmen von weniger als 50.000 US-Dollar pro Jahr wurde ein Mindestbetrag von 2.000 Dollar pro Jahr festgelegt.

Einem moralischen Kreuzzug gleich ziehen mittlerweile etliche Videovertriebe gegen bekannte Kassenschlager ins Feld und schneiden Szenen, die Gewalt, Sex oder Kraftausdrücke enthalten, kurzerhand aus dem Filmmaterial. Zahlreiche Hollywood-Regisseure wehren sich gegen die nicht genehmigten “Kürzungen”.

Auch wenn wir (vorerst) nicht verraten wollen, welche Stadt hier gemeint ist, muss schon jetzt gewarnt werden. Ein Buch ist in Umlauf. Genauer: Ein Lexikon. Und dieses listet eine Vielzahl von Städtebeschimpfungen zwischen Aachen und Zürich auf. Auch heimische Städte kriegen ihr Fett ab. Neben Wien bekommen auch Innsbruck, Salzburg, Klagenfurt und die Weltstadt Bruck an der Mur eines übergezogen.

Man Dies in His Own Booby-Trapped House
Belgian man died of a gunshot wound after setting booby-traps throughout his house using hunting rifles and explosives, to police and local news reports said Sunday. The 80-year-old former chemical engineer had apparently set the traps to prevent his children from entering the house after a family dispute in the town of Aiseau-Presles near Charleroi, south of Brussels, the local Belga news agency said.

Museum honors Adobe, chip gurus
Silicon Valley's Computer History Museum announced Monday that it will honor the founders of Adobe Systems and two other technology pioneers. The Mountain View, Calif.-based museum will induct Adobe alumni John Warnock and Charles Geschke, along with semiconductor innovators Carver Mead and John Cocke, into its Hall of Fellows on Oct. 22 at a ceremony in San Jose, Calif. The museum is home to one of the world's largest collections of historical computing artifacts, ranging from turn-of-the-century census-tallying machines to the Alto, the Xerox device that presaged the PC era.
