High roller
Some men want to see snow-capped mountains when they look out their picture window at home, or a still lake stocked with bluegills and bass, or perhaps whitetail deer feeding in the tall grass. John Ivers wanted to see a roller coaster. So he built one -- a real, working roller coaster 180 feet long, 20 feet high, and complete with a 360-degree corkscrew. It goes over his steeply angled barn roof, wraps around a nearby Chinese elm and comes to a roaring stop in about 11 seconds.

Monkey tears off soccer coach's ear
In a bizarre incident, a monkey tore off a soccer coach's ear while he was trying to save his young trainees from the simian at a stadium here. Samir Chatterjee as usual came to the field in the morning yesterday to train his boys at Sodepur Sporting Stadium in North 24 Parganas but the monkey intervened. Sensing danger, Chatterjee known for his love for animals, collected some potatoes to lure away the monkey, but it instead pounced on him tearing off his ear.

Sailor rescued after two months adrift
An American man lost at sea for more than two months has been rescued 40 miles (64 km) off the South Carolina coast. Emaciated and delusional, 43-year-old Terry Watson is now in hospital being treated for dehydration and shock.
