It's official: eBay weds PayPal


PayPal is now officially a part of eBay, but the online payments company will be without its chief executive officer who led it into the merger. eBay announced Thursday afternoon that it has completed its acquisition of PayPal. The announcement followed a shareholder vote Thursday morning in which holders of 65 percent of PayPal shares voted in favor of the merger.

Das Internet-Auktionshaus eBay hat nach eigenen Angaben die Übernahme des Internet-Zahlungsdienstleisters PayPal erfolgreich abgeschlossen. Das teilte eBay in der Nacht zum Freitag mit. Demnach erhalten die Aktionäre für eine PayPal-Aktie 0,39 eBay-Anteile. Durch die im Juli angekündigte Übernahme erwartet das Internet-Auktionshaus eine Erhöhung der Umsätze im vierten Quartal um 60 bis 64 Millionen US-Dollar.

Iranian artists in trouble over kiss


A well-known Iranian actress has landed herself and an award-winning young film director in court, for kissing him on the forehead and shaking his hand in public. Etemad newspaper reported that Gohar Kheirandish made her display of affection last week after Ali Zamani was chosen as best film maker at a film festival in the central city of Yazd.

Implant may help blind to see


US scientists are developing a light-sensitive chip that will be implanted into the eyes of blind people to restore some of their vision. The goal is to allow people suffering from certain forms of blindness, such as age-related macular degeneration and retinitis pigmentosa, to see 1,000 points of light through 1,000 tiny electrodes positioned on their retinas.

I have a web robot which is a Java app. I need to be able to set the User-Agent field in the HTTP header in order to be a good net citizen (so people know who is accessing their server). Anyone have any ideas?
