Massachusetts Institute of Technology A sampling of MIT's OpenCourseWare selections appered online today. The courses cover a full range of departments, but only a couple apiece. The material ranges ranges from just syllabi and calendars to extensive on-line course notes and interative demos.

The profile of malicious code on the Internet is changing with porn diallers and Trojan horses becoming more serious problems. A study on the malicious code blocked last year by managed services firm MessageLabs finds the spread of Trojan horses is becoming more organised.

The only company licensed to develop cannabis-based medicines in the UK reported Monday that a study showed patients suffering from severe pain benefit from its products. The study by GW Pharmaceuticals Plc examined 34 patients with severe pain resulting from multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury and other conditions, who could not be fully treated with currently available medications.

E-mail virus is bugbear for users
A computer virus that can steal passwords and credit card information is spreading on thousands of PCs worldwide. Called Bugbear, the virus can open computers to hackers, compromise secure transactions and passwords, as well as disabling any anti-virus software and firewalls that might be in place.

300 kilos of dynamite stolen
Thieves made off with 300 kilos of dynamite from an approved storehouse in Risor. The hinges of the storage container had been chipped off and police learned of the missing explosives on Monday morning.
