There’s a new tool to take down terrorism images online. But social-media companies are wary of it.
President Obama suggested that extremist information spread online inspired a Florida man to commit the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history at a gay nightclub in Orlando last week — the latest in a long line of terrorist attacks in which Islamist propaganda played some role in radicalizing the assailant. Now a Dartmouth College researcher and a nonprofit group say they have created a technology that can help Internet companies instantly detect images and videos generated by terrorists and their supporters and remove them from their platforms.

Canada vows to protect Santa Claus from Russian troops in the Arctic
Canada has vowed to defend the North Pole and Santa Claus, insisting the mythical figure is a citizen, after Russia ordered its military to step up its Arctic presence.
Paul Calandra, parliamentary secretary to the prime minister, cited Canada's claim of the North Pole to bash an opposition party in Parliament.
"We are defending the north further by making a claim on the North Pole," he said.

Deutschland lieferte Chemikalien nach Damaskus
Deutschland hat Chemikalien nach Syrien exportiert, die zur Giftgasproduktion verwendet werden können. Das geht aus einer Anfrage der Linken hervor. Zwischen 2002 und 2006 wurden mehr als 100 Tonnen Chemikalien nach Damaskus geliefert.
Berlin - Deutschland hat Syrien zwischen 2002 und 2006 Chemikalien geliefert, die auch zur Produktion des Giftgases Sarin verwendet werden können. Dies geht aus einer Antwort der Bundesregierung auf eine Anfrage der Linken hervor.

Syrien: WikiLeaks veröffentlicht 2 Mio. Mails
Die aus dem Zeitraum von August 2006 bis März 2012 stammenden Mails von syrischen Politikern, Ministerien und Firmen sind laut Wikileaks-Gründer Assange "für das syrische Regime als auch für dessen Gegner peinlich".
In einer zuvor ausgeschickten Mitteilung – eine Pressekonferenz hätte per Livestream übertragen werden sollen, der WikiLeaks-Server war allerdings zu diesem Zeitpunkt offenbar aus Überlastung down – meldete sich auch Julian Assange zu Wort. Die "außergewöhnliche Datensammlung" stamme von 680 syrischen Institutionen und Domains – darunter die Ministerien für Präsidentschafts-Angelegenheiten, Äußeres, Finanzen, Information, Transport und Kultur. Binnen der kommenden zwei Monate werden die Daten ausgewertet und via WikiLeaks und über diverse Medien – wie etwa die ARD in Deutschland – publiziert.

Zuerst haben sie die Tuareg-Rebellen verjagt. Nun zerstören muslimischen Fundamentalisten im Norden Malis das Weltkulturerbe der Wüstenstadt Timbuktu.
Trotz weltweiter Empörung sind die Islamisten in Timbuktu unbeirrt. „Wir handeln im Namen Gottes“, sagte der Sprecher der radikalislamistischen Gruppe Ansar Dine, Sanda Ould Boumana, gegenüber AFP. Seit Samstag früh sind islamistische Eiferer in der berühmtesten Stadt Malis dabei, systematisch alle 16 Mausoleen und Grabstätten zu zerstören, in denen die Heiligen Timbuktus begraben sind und verehrt werden.
Nachdem am Samstag die Mausoleen Sidi Mahmoud, Sidi Moctar und Alpha Moya dem Erdboden gleichgemacht worden sind, machten sich die Islamisten am Sonntag an das Gelände der größten Moschee der Stadt, Djingareyber. Vier Mausoleen dort sollten noch am gleichen Tag zerstört werden.

NATO mit neuer Cyberwar-Doktrin
Während der militärische Supervirus "Flame" analysiert wird, drohen USA und NATO nun ganz offen mit Cyberangriffen. Sogar die deutsche Bundeswehr entwickelt offiziell Angriffskapazitäten.
Kaum ein Tag vergeht, ohne dass von den daran beteiligten Anti-Virusforschern eine neue, meist überraschende Funktion des Supervirus "Flame" bekannt wird. Nach Stuxnet und Duqu ist "Flame" die dritte große Schadsoftware militärischen Ursprungs mit ebensolchen Zielen, die in freier Wildbahn aufgetaucht ist.

Lauryn Hill Versus The Military-Industrial Complex
For the past several years, I have remained what others would consider underground. I did this in order to build a community of people, like-minded in their desire for freedom and the right to pursue their goals and lives without being manipulated and controlled by a media protected military industrial complex with a completely different agenda. Having put the lives and needs of other people before my own for multiple years, and having made hundreds of millions of dollars for certain institutions, under complex and sometimes severe circumstances, I began to require growth and more equitable treatment, but was met with resistance. I entered into my craft full of optimism (which I still possess), but immediately saw the suppressive force with which the system attempts to maintain it’s control over a given paradigm. I’ve seen people promote addiction, use sabotage, black listing, media bullying and any other coercion technique they could, to prevent artists from knowing their true value, or exercising their full power. These devices of control, no matter how well intentioned (or not), can have a devastating outcome on the lives of people, especially creative types who must grow and exist within a certain environment and according to a certain pace, in order to live and create optimally…

Kickstriker is a fundraising platform for activists, engineers and others working to resolve global conflicts. We believe that crowdfunding holds the potential to address many conflicts around the globe by allowing those who care to directly support potential solutions. These solutions might take the form of military action, supplying equipment and arms to those in need or the development of new military technologies with immediate applications in the field. Rather than waiting for national governments, coalitions and international bodies like the UN, NATO, EU and AU to decide to address a conflict--a process that can take years of deliberation--Kickstriker users are funding solutions that can be on the ground in weeks.
Kickstriker was built by three graduate students in the Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP) at NYU: Josh Begley, Mehan Jayasuriya and James Borda. Following the massive success of Invisible Children's "Kony 2012" campaign, we found ourselves excited about the potential that crowdsourcing held for addressing global conflicts.

Siemens und Syrien: Was die Überwachungstechnik kann
Deutschland ist nicht nur der drittgrößte Rüstungsexporteur der Welt und der größte in Europa, auch bei Überwachungstechnologien schätzen autoritäre Regime die deutsche Wertarbeit. Eine syrische Ausschreibung beschreibt, was die gelieferte Technik mindestens können muss. Die beteiligten Firmen hüllen sich in Schweigen.
Gestern wurde bekannt, dass der Siemens-Konzern Technologien zur Überwachung von Telefon- und Internet-Kommunikation an Syrien verkauft hat, die dort noch immer im Einsatz sind.
