And another thing...
All the characters have been blown to pieces, and the trilogy is already two books too long.
But the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy has never had a problem with highly improbable events.
Douglas Adams died in 2001, having written five of the enduringly popular Hitchhiker books - still inaccurately dubbed a trilogy.
About 16 million copies of the books have been sold worldwide, but fans were left disappointed when it seemed as though Adams' early death ended the series with all the main characters seemingly meeting a grizzly end.

Hack of Palin e-mail
Vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin's private Yahoo e-mail account was hacked, and some of its contents posted on the internet Wednesday.
The internet griefers known as Anonymous took credit for the intrusion, and screenshots of e-mail messages and photos belonging to the Alaska governor have been published by WikiLeaks. Threat Level has confirmed the authenticity of at least one of the e-mails.

Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms Loses 418 Laptops
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (now, with Explosives!) LOST 418 LAPTOPS and 76 weapons during a five year period ending in 2007. Sounds like they need to focus more on the tobacco and firearms, and lay off the alcohol.

LHC Fails Thunderstorm Test
Nature had her own ideas about testing LHC safety. A thunderstorm last Friday knocked out some transformers at the LHC near Geneva that are part of the helium cooling system, that cools the magnets that keep the proton beams travelling (near light speed) on a circular path through the collider. Technicians have been scrambling to fix the problems, but not before some magnets warmed well above standard operating temperatures, some reaching almost 7K from the usual ultra cold 1.9K .

Large Hadron Collider Renaming Contest
After a full week of operation, the Large Hadron Collider has yet to swallow the world, leaving humanity free to concentrate on its rather geeky name.
Unimportant, you say? Well, people who were excited when physicists flipped the LHC's switch might be less enthusiastic if, a year or two down the line, nobody's actually found Higgs bosons or sparticles or gluinos or other assorted dawn-of-the-universe dust bunnies.
