Hadron Collider halted for months
On Friday, a failure, known as a quench, caused around 100 of the LHC's super-cooled magnets to heat up by as much as 100C.
The fire brigade were called out after a tonne of liquid helium leaked into the tunnel at Cern, near Geneva.

Large Hadron Collider: Public chooses 'Halo' as its new name
The name "Halo" sounds much catchier and should adorn the £4.4 billion experiment, according to a poll organised by the Royal Society of Chemistry in London
The Large Hadron Collider does what it says on the tin, since hadron refers to the subatomic particles that the giant machine smashes together at a shade below the speed of light.

Der Auftakt der Anti-Islamisierungskonferenz in Köln ist gefloppt - zumindest aus Sicht der Organisatoren: Mit einem spektakulären Spitzentreffen wollte die europäische Rechte Stimmung machen. Übrig blieb eine chaotische Lachnummer.

Conservative commentator Bill O'Reilly's website hacked
Two days after someone broke into the email account of vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, unknown intruders have hacked the website of conservative commentator Bill O'Reilly and posted personal details of more than 200 of its subscribers.
The breach into BillOreilly.com came as retaliation for remarks O'Reilly made on Fox News condemning the attack on Palin's Yahoo email account, according to Wikileaks, a site that makes it easy for whistleblowers, hackers and anyone else to leak documents.

Anti-Piraterie-Abkommen: Klage gegen US-Regierung
Die US-Bürgerrechtsorganisationen Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) und Public Knowledge haben gestern den US-Außenhandelsbeauftragten auf Herausgabe des geheimen Anti-Piraterie-Ppakts Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) geklagt.
ACTA ist ein Abkommen, das derzeit unter den USA, Japan, der EU und anderen wichtigen Handelspartnern ausgehandelt wird. Bürgerrechtler und Hilfsorganisationen befürchten, dass ACTA zu schärferen Grenzkontrollen, Internet-Überwachung und härterem Patentschutz für Medikamente zur Aids-Bekämpfung führen wird.

Venezuela Says U.S. Uses Anti-Drug List as “Weapon of Domination
Venezuelan government officials rejected the U.S. government's renewed placement of Venezuela on a list of principal countries where illegal drugs are transported or produced, calling it a political maneuver meant to weaken the Venezuelan and Bolivian governments at a time when both are confronting potential coup d'états waged by domestic opposition groups.
A press release from the White House on Tuesday named 20 countries which "failed demonstrably" over the past year to comply with international drug control agreements.

Zum ersten Mal hat die US-Regierung Bolivien auf die Liste der Länder gesetzt, denen sie Versäumnisse bei der Drogenbekämpfung vorwirft. Weitere Staaten auf der Liste sind Afghanistan, die Bahamas, Brasilien, Myanmar, Kolumbien, die Dominikanische Republik, Ecuador, Guatemala, Haiti, Indien, Jamaika, Laos, Mexiko, Nigeria, Pakistan, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, und Venezuela.

Kotzender TV-total-Gast bestätigt Becksteins Maß-Regel !!
Großes Bohei erntete der bayerische Ministerpräsident Günther Beckstein mit seiner Behauptung, daß man nach zwei Maß Bier noch Autofahren könne.
Das Experiment in der Sendung TV total von Stefan Raab vom 17.09.2008 scheint Becksteins Maß-Regel zu bestätigen: Nach einer Maß Bier kotzte das aus dem Publikum geholte Versuchskaninchen zwar auf den Studioboden, hatte aber nur 0,2 Promille Alkohol im Blut.

EU plant Hasch-Kontrollen für Autofahrer
Vorbild sind die Alkoholtests am Steuer: In zwei Jahren sollen nach dem Willen der EU planmäßig Drogentests bei Autofahrern durchgeführt werden. Das sieht der Vierjahresplan zur Drogenbekämpfung im Straßenverkehr von Justizkommissar Barrot vor.
Die EU plant intensivere Cannabis-Kontrollen für Autofahrer. "Wir wollen ein ähnliches System für Drogenkonsum wie für Alkohol am Steuer", sagte EU-Justizkommissar Jacques Barrot am Donnerstag bei der Vorstellung eines neuen Vierjahresplans zur Drogenbekämpfung. In zwei Jahren sollen die Kontrollen beginnen. Nach Angaben der Europäischen Beobachtungsstelle für Drogen und Drogensucht (EBDD) nehmen jährlich rund 23 Millionen Europäer Cannabis zu sich und 4,5 Millionen konsumieren Kokain.

That's because YouTube has recently partnered up with Nexicon, a company that acts as the middleman between content monitoring and copyright owners, enabling them to either send out automated takedown notices or monetize the unauthorized streams. And this new service isn't likely to stop at YouTube, as the company plans to launch a similar one that will sort through numerous P2P networks for copyrighted content in order to send bills to those users. Best of all, Nexicon wants to patent the entire system.
