Can Urine Rescue Hydrogen-Powered Cars?
It's been a rough couple of years for cars powered by hydrogen fuel cells. As the drums beat louder for electric cars--the 2011 Chevrolet Volt, Nissan's upcoming EV, and more--the hydrogen chorus is waning.
But perhaps there's hope. And perhaps it's as close as your nearest urinal. Or, more politely, your local sewage treatment facility.

Viel Hype, wenig Substanz - Botschafter findet Brüno "unpassend"
Er will "der größte österreichische Superstar seit Hitler" werden: Mit seinen Provokationen sorgt Brüno, die neue Filmfigur des britischen Komikers Sacha Baron Cohen, seit Monaten für Aufsehen. Jetzt kommt die satirische Pseudodokumentation endlich ins Kino. Wie im Vorgänger "Borat" entlockt Baron Cohen seinen Gesprächspartnern politisch inkorrekte oder schlicht dumme Aussagen. Doch an den entlarvenden Witz des letzten Films kommt "Brüno" nie heran - auch wenn der Komiker noch so oft seinen "Arschwitz" in die Kamera hält.

Der Brite Sacha Baron Cohen bricht mit den letzten Tabus der Komödie. Nun läuft sein neuer Film "Brüno" über einen schwulen Modejournalisten an.
Auch Sacha Baron Cohen, der britische Guerilla-Humorist, machte einen der besseren Gags in seinem neuen Film "Brüno" auf Kosten von Jackson: Unter einem Vorwand hatte er dessen Schwester LaToya zu einem Interview gelockt. Am Ende des Gesprächs greift sich Cohen ihr Handy, sucht darin nach der Telefonnummer von Michael und beginnt sie laut vorzulesen.

CCC: Vorratsdatenspeicherung bringt unkontrollierbare Überwachung
Der Chaos Computer Club (CCC) macht in einem jetzt veröffentlichten Gutachten (PDF-Datei) zu den Verfassungsbeschwerden gegen die Vorratsspeicherung von Telekommunikationsdaten deutlich, welch tiefe Einblicke in die Privatsphäre aller Nutzer mit der umkämpften Maßnahme möglich werden. Im Kern werde durch die Speicherung der Verbindungsdaten und der Standorte der Mobiltelefone eine "Verwendung von Ausforschungsmethoden in der Polizeiarbeit möglich, die bisher nur im geheimdienstlichen und militärischen Bereich üblich sind", schreibt die Hackervereinigung in ihrer Eingabe an das Bundesverfassungsgericht. Durch die Ausforschung von Beziehungsnetzwerken, Aufenthaltsorten und Abfolgen von Kommunikation könne ein "nahezu vollständiges Profil der Persönlichkeit eines Betroffenen erstellt und über die Zeit fortentwickelt werden".

Mensch contra Stier
Bei der ersten Stierhatz anlässlich der Fiesta de San Fermín in Pamplona sind mehrere Menschen zumeist leicht verletzt worden. Das tut der Feierwut von Hundertausenden keinen Abbruch.
Man hat den Eindruck, dass es Jahr für Jahr ein bisschen wilder zugeht auf der Stierhatz in Pamplona. Noch mehr Lebensmüde, noch mehr Touristen, noch mehr Risiko, noch mehr Alkohol.

The famous bull run festival is on for nine days until 14th July
At 12 noon this Monday, the San Fermín bull run festival kicked off in Pamplona for another year with a crowd of thousands waiting in the Town Hall square, red neckerchiefs at the ready, for the ‘chupinazo’ rocket to be set off from the City Hall balcony to herald the official start of the festivities. The honour of lighting this year’s fuse went to the Socialist councillor, Maite Esporrín, signalling nine days of non-stop celebrations.

Three Civil Guard are amongst the 8 suspects arrested for smuggling the drugs into Galicia
Three Civil Guard are reported to be amongst eight suspects arrested in a National Police operation in Galicia which has seized more than 800 kilos of cocaine and smashed the smugglers’ entry point in Puerto de Marín, Pontevedra.

Pornography outlawed in Ukraine, unless it's “medicinal”
Possession of pornography is now a criminal offense in Ukraine, Lenta.ru reports, after Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko signed a law to that effect today. Human rights activists and members of the Ukrainian artistic community had asked the president to veto the law.

5 Years After: Portugal's Drug Decriminalization Policy Shows Positive Results
In the face of a growing number of deaths and cases of HIV linked to drug abuse, the Portuguese government in 2001 tried a new tack to get a handle on the problem—it decriminalized the use and possession of heroin, cocaine, marijuana, LSD and other illicit street drugs. The theory: focusing on treatment and prevention instead of jailing users would decrease the number of deaths and infections.
