US school officials remove dictionary over term 'oral sex'
After a parent complained about an elementary school student stumbling across "oral sex" in a classroom dictionary, Menifee Union School District officials decided to pull Merriam Webster's 10th edition from all school shelves earlier this week.
School officials will review the dictionary to decide if it should be permanently banned because of the "sexually graphic" entry, said district spokeswoman Betti Cadmus. The dictionaries were initially purchased a few years ago for fourth- and fifth-grade classrooms districtwide, according to a memo to the superintendent.

They let Sebastien Buemi — driver for Red Bull's junior team Toro Rosso — loose on an ice-covered lake in northern Quebec.

Die Ausrottung der als Plage betrachteten Kamele in Australien wäre ein guter Beitrag zum Klimaschutz, findet der Agrarsprecher der Opposition. Jedes Kamel rülpse im Jahr eine Tonne Treibhausgase in die Luft, meinte John Cobb.

Aber wer ihn sprechen will, muss in diesen Tagen besondere Überzeugungsarbeit leisten. Herr Vogt müsse sich jetzt auf seine Akten konzentrieren, sagt der Behördenleiter. Und muss es denn immer Vogt sein? Es gebe doch so viele andere Fachleute.

Schwarzes Loch frisst Weißen Zwerg
Weltall, 10.01.2010 – Auf einer Tagung der American Astronomical Society (AAS) am 4. Januar berichteten Wissenschaftler über die Entdeckung einer Röntgenstrahlungsquelle im Spiralnebel NGC 1399 (im Sternbild Schütze, etwa 65 Millionen Lichtjahre von unserem Sonnensystem entfernt), die von einem Schwarzen Loch auszugehen scheint. Aufgrund der Analyse der Bilddaten des Röntgenteleskops Chandra, das sich auf einer Umlaufbahn um die Erde befindet, kamen sie zu dem Ergebnis, dass ein Schwarzes Loch mittlerer Größe die Bahn eines Weißen Zwerges gekreuzt hat und dabei ist, diesen Kleinstern zu verschlingen. Dabei wird Röntgenstrahlung freigesetzt, die von dem Weltraumteleskop aufgezeichnet werden kann.
