NSA $3.2 Billion “Site M” Expansion Planning Documents Reveal Cyberwar Command Center

In July 2010, the NSA revealed that it was expanding into a 227-acre parcel of land at Fort Meade called “Site M”, constructing a series of buildings that could cost as much as $5.2 billion. This expansion would displace two golf courses currently occupying the land and provide the NSA, which already occupies 630 acres at Fort Meade, with more space to build “an operational complex and to construct and operate consolidated facilities to meet the National Security Agency’s (NSA) continually evolving requirements and for Intelligence Community use”. The project has been shrouded in secrecy throughout its existence and there are only a few references to “Site M” in DoD budget planning documents. However, a recently discovered collection of development planning documents for the Site M project provide detailed information about the proposed $3.2 billion expansion, indicating that the facility will be a centralized command center for the NSA’s evolving cyberwarfare capabilities.

A Primer on Wikileaks Espionage on TOR Exit Nodes

In 2007, Dan Egerstad, Swedish security researcher, exposed how the Tor network could easily be used for intelligence gathering: [1]

``Dan Egerstad is a Swedish security researcher; he ran five Tor nodes. Last month, he posted a list of 100 e-mail credentials -- server IP addresses, e-mail accounts and the corresponding passwords -- for embassies and government ministries around the globe, all obtained by sniffing exit traffic for usernames and passwords of e-mail servers.''

Don't Even Think About It, Anonymous Warns NATO

Anybody who thinks that Anonymous is just a bunch of harmless script kiddies playing around on their mom's computer hasn't been following the news recently. The US recently said it would put a hurting on hackers that threatened the nation, and earlier this week, NATO published a special report on cybersecurity. A big chunk of it was spent describing the threat of everyone's favorite hacker collective. The longer Anonymous continues its hijinks, the more likely they'd be "infiltrated and perpetrators persecuted," the report warned. Anonymous' response showed its characteristic sense of style.

A Perfectly Sensible Writer Explains Why Lady Gaga is the Greatest Pop Star on Earth

"I just can't get over the fact that so many intelligent people don't get the Gaga."

My friend Hudson Marquez, the great artist, sociopolitical provocateur, TV producer (Dylan's Hard Rain), and co-creator of the famous Cadillac Ranch art project (which inspired a Bruce Springsteen song), posted those words on my Facebook page a few weeks ago during a heated discussion over this Liam Gallagher quote: "She's great! Seriously, man, we like her. She's the only one out there who's got balls. She can play instruments. She can sing. She can dance. She's weird. She's shocking people. I like the Gaga, man."

Sarah Palin: Oops she did it again, Paul Revere debacle

But since her followers have tried to "fix" the Wikipedia page on Paul Revere to fit in with what this bimbo believes, I guess she must be right...

Here's Stephen Colbert trying to prove Revere could have ridden a horse while ringing a bell and firing multiple shots from a front-loading musket:

NATO: Anonymous will be "infiltrated" and "persecuted"

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization contains the combined military might of 28 member countries, including Germany, the United Kingdom, and France. All three of those nations, and the United States, possess huge armies, nuclear weapons, and are committed to Article Five of NATO's charter:

The Parties agree that an armed attack against one or more of them in Europe or North America shall be considered an attack against them all and consequently they agree that, if such an armed attack occurs, each of them, in exercise of the right of individual or collective self-defence recognised by Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, will assist the Party or Parties so attacked.

A Big Test for New Internet Addresses

At 8 p.m. EST on Tuesday, more than 300 organizations, including Google, Facebook, and Yahoo, will test a new way of routing information around the Internet: Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6). Though the test run will only last 24 hours, participants may learn valuable lessons about how transitioning to IPv6 could affect their sites and their users. Spearheaded by the Internet Society (ISOC), World IPv6 Day is an international, coordinated effort to test this transition. ISOC hopes the effort will also encourage other organizations to adopt IPv6.

Webian Shell

You can download Webian Shell, although it's very rudimentary at this early stage – just a Web browser, a clock and a basic desktop. The open-source program is based on the Chromeless project and written entirely in standard web technolgies like HTML, CSS and JavaScript. One of the principles of the project is to promote open web standards over proprietary technology. Could that be a jab at the walled-in nature of the Google ID-requiring Chrome OS?

In the run-up to the June 15th anniversary of the 2009 Iranian presidential election—elections met with widespread protests amidst widespread claims that the result was rigged—Anonymous has stepped up its electronic attacks on Iran. In a break from the loosely affiliated group's more common denial-of-service attacks, the group announced that it has stolen more than 10,000 e-mails from the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
