Apple Laptop Batteries Can Be Bricked, Firmware Hacked

Security researcher Charlie Miller, widely known for his work on Mac OS X and Apple's iOS, has discovered an interesting method that enables him to completely disable the batteries on Apple laptops, making them permanently unusable, and perform a number of other unintended actions. The method, which involves accessing and sending instructions to the chip housed on smart batteries could also be used for more malicious purposes down the road.

New Firefox Add-on Warns You About The Dangers Of The Murdoch Propaganda Machine

NewsCorp agents in multiple countries have been arrested for hacking into the phones and computers of at least thousands of innocent people. Since the Murdoch family controls 100+ high-traffic domains, it is difficult for average users to know which sites could potentially place them at risk.

MurdochAlert identifies the domains that may place users at risk for Murdoch-related hacking. MurdochAlert shows a bottom warning box whenever you visit a Murdoch-controlled sited.

A European Declaration of Indepence" ("2083.

Even better than the real thing...

For our latest mission, we staged a fake U2 concert on a Manhattan rooftop, moments before a real U2 show across the street at Madison Square Garden.

Google: No Private Google+ Profiles for You!

Privacy advocates have held Facebook's feet to the fire on several occasions over various privacy issues that have crept up since its inception, and if Google's to truly become a Facebook killer, the sultan of search would be wise not to follow in Zuckerberg's footsteps. It's interesting, then, that Google has decided to ban private Google+ profiles, requiring users to make their profiles public or face account deletion.

So Glastonbury fans really are getting older!

If you think music festivals should remain the preserve of the young, look away now. Undeterred by the mud, rain...and throngs of youngsters, this grey-haired Glastonbury fan pushed what appeared to be a walking frame through the crowds yesterday. She and thousands more had descended upon the 900-acre site at Worthy Farm, in Somerset, which was churned up by a second morning of torrential rain.
