French Nuclear Energy Firm Fined $2 Million for Hacking Greenpeace
The French utility company EDF has been fined €1.5 million (more than $2 million) for hacking into the computer networks of Greenpeace.
The world's biggest nuclear energy supplier, the mostly-state-owned EDF (Électricité de France S.A) was charged with concealing stolen documents and illegal computer intrusion after hiring a Paris-based detective agency in 2006 to snoop on Greenpeace's computers in an effort to investigate, and ultimately thwart, the environmental group's plan to block EDF from building new nuclear plants in the United Kingdom.

"The forbidden Srebrenica report" - ITCY Report
The Srebrenica massacre, also known as the Srebrenica genocide, refers to the July 1995 killing, during the Bosnian War, of more than 8,000 Bosniaks (Bosnian Muslims), mainly men and boys, in and around the town of Srebrenica in Bosnia and Herzegovina, by units of the Army of Republika Srpska (VRS) under the command of General Ratko Mladić. The mass murder was described by the Secretary-General of the United Nations as the worst crime on European soil since the Second World War. A paramilitary unit from Serbia known as the Scorpions, officially part of the Serbian Interior Ministry until 1991, participated in the massacre and it is alleged that foreign volunteers including the Greek Volunteer Guard also participated.

Rumänische Nokia-Fabrik beschlagnahmt
Das rumänische Finanzamt hat am Freitag die Fertigungsanlage des finnischen Handy-Herstellers Nokia im Industriepark Jucu beschlagnahmt. Dies sei eine Vorsichtsmaßnahme, nachdem eine Prüfung ergeben habe, dass Nokia Zollgebühren von 10 Millionen US-Dollar nicht bezahlt habe, sagte Behördenchef Sorin Blejnar in Bukarest. Nokia will seine Fabrik in Rumänien bis Jahresende schließen.
.....Nokia hatte im Februar 2008 in Jucu nahe der siebenbürgischen Stadt Cluj mit der Produktion einfacher Handys begonnen und dazu dort eine Fabrik für 60 Millionen Euro gebaut – im gleichen Jahr wurde dafür das Nokia-Werk Bochum geschlossen.

Mikko Hypponen Warns of Adobe Reader Threats
F-Secure's Mikko Hypponen urged organizations to reconsider the continued use of Adobe Reader given the tendency for attackers to exploit the application's frequent vulnerabilities.
Hypponen made the comments during the recent PacSec 2011 conference in Tokyo.
Attackers often exploit a vulnerabilities that allows malicious code to be embedded in a PDF file, which then infects the victim's computer and can create a backdoor that hackers can use to access systems and glean sensitive information.
But Hypponen says that it is not the PDF format that is the culprit, but instead it is the wide spread use of Adobe Reader that provides the attackers with the opportunity to infect a system.
"These attacks are not against PDF - these attacks are against Adobe Reader. You open this files in any other reader than Adobe Reader and there is no exploit," said Hypponen.

Jod-131-Messungen - Radioaktive Strahlung über Europa
In mehreren Teilen Europas sind in der Atmosphäre Spuren von Jod-131 festgestellt worden. Das meldet die Internationale Atomenergiebehörde IAEA. Man habe von der Atomsicherheit in der Tschechischen Republik die Information erhalten, dass dort in den vergangenen Tagen Jod-131 gemessen worden sei. Danach habe man von weiteren solchen Messungen andernorts in Europa erfahren. Neben Tschechien gab es auch Meldungen aus Österreich, Ungarn und Deutschland.

Merkel vor der Hanf-Frage
Die Eurorettung dominiert zur Zeit die Politik. Doch Youtube-Nutzer interessieren ganz andere Fragen, die sie Angela Merkel gerne stellen wollen.
Es ist schon paradox: Deutschland steckt in der größten Krise seit der Einführung des Euro, doch was die Bürger vor allem bewegt ist die Legalisierung von Cannabis. Das lässt sich zumindest schlussfolgern, wenn man derzeit den Youtube-Kanal der Bundesregierung besucht.
Dort hatten Nutzer in den letzten drei Wochen die Möglichkeit, Fragen an Bundeskanzlerin Angela Merkel zu stellen und gleichzeitig Fragen anderer Teilnehmer zu bewerten. Insgesamt haben sich 8.200 Menschen mit 1.800 Vorschlägen beteiligt.

KMK-Generalsekretär Udo Michallik werde sich persönlich an die Ministerin wenden, um ihr Sinn und Zweck des Programms zu erklären, sagte eine KMK-Sprecherin. Ziel sei nicht die Überwachung der Lehrer, vielmehr sollten Schulen und Lehrer vor Raubkopien geschützt werden. Die Software habe den großen Vorteil, dass nicht jeder Lehrer einzeln mit der Verwertungsgesellschaft aushandeln müsse, ob er Lehrmaterial vervielfältigen dürfe oder nicht. Außerdem könne die Software verhindern, dass Lehrer unwissentlich gegen das Urheberrecht verstoßen.

Dass ganz Wien den Wein storniert und sich nur noch einraucht, wie Wolfgang Ambros einst musikalisch überzeugt war, scheint langsam Realität zu werden. Zumindest der Teil mit dem Cannabiskonsum. Denn die Zahl jener Bundeshauptstädter und Bundeshauptstädterinnen, die zumindest einmal in ihrem Leben schon einen Joint geraucht haben, hat sich seit 1993 mehr als vervierfacht - auf 21 Prozent, zeigt der aktuelle Drogenbericht des Gesundheitsministeriums.

Cyber Fast Track (CFT)
The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency's Cyber Fast Track program is aimed at improving Cyber Security. This program will rely on the skills of small organizations, boutiques, hacker spaces and maker labs to address cyber security issues.
According to DARPA program manager, Peiter "Mudge" Zatko, instead of engaging in traditional programs that don't produce results for years, we envision results within months by harnessing teams or individuals on the back of short, fixed-price DARPA contracts.

Fiat - Arrivederci, Italia?
DUTY, history, and responsibility are what keep Fiat, Italy’s biggest private-sector employer, based at home. Running counter to such fine notions, said the carmaker’s boss, Sergio Marchionne, earlier this year, is Fiat’s need to make decisions “rationally”. It has lost money in Italy for years. It expects things to get worse as sales slump at home. Small wonder that the country regularly goes into hysteria over whether Fiat will stay.
Its takeover of Chrysler, an American carmaker, is one reason to worry. Fiat (whose chairman, John Elkann, is a director of The Economist’s parent company) has not decided whether the combined group’s headquarters will be in Turin or Detroit. That may involve little more than a plaque on the wall, as the company argues. But Fiat’s manufacturing presence in Italy is under threat too. Despite earning two-thirds of its revenues abroad, it still has almost half its employees and 40% of its plants in Italy. Mr Marchionne has repeatedly threatened to shutter Italian capacity if he cannot make it productive.
