Australia's 'child labour camp' - Scientology
In the middle of suburban Australia is a secret compound that's labelled 'degrading' and 'inhumane', with allegations of keeping children prisoner.
Right in the middle of a quiet suburb is a place where children are separated from their parents, and forced to work full time for no pay, and live in squalid conditions.
Those who've survived this place say they were brainwashed into believing they could not leave, and that they deserved the shocking treatment dished out.
A young man who escaped the place with the help of his father, Shane Kelsey says “I lived in that garage for about a year and a half, maybe two years.”

How to avoid being tagged as a terrorist: Don't pay cash for coffee
FBI program distributes generic criteria as 'terrorist warning signs'
It's difficult to figure out where you stand in the eyes of the law these days TSA, the Dept. of Homeland Security and various other security operations use a chain of super-secret, largely extralegal administrative criteria to decide who should go on the No Fly list, who should be watched as a potential terrorist, what kinds of online behavior seem hackerish and whether a desire for privacy is simply preserving one's dignity or a red flag indicating a nefarious and violent purpose.

Reel Piracy: The Effect of Online Film Piracy on International Box Office Sales
Hollywood films are generally released first in the United States and then later abroad, with some variation in lags across films and countries. With the growth in movie piracy since the appearance of BitTorrent in 2003, films have become available through illegal piracy immediately after release in the US, while they are not available for legal viewing abroad until their foreign premieres in each country. We make use of this variation in international release lags to ask whether longer lags – which facilitate more local pre-release piracy – depress theatrical box office receipts, particularly after the widespread adoption of BitTorrent. We find that longer release windows are associated with decreased box office returns, even after controlling for film and country fixed effects. This relationship is much stronger in contexts where piracy is more prevalent: after BitTorrent’s adoption and in heavily-pirated genres. Our findings indicate that, as a lower bound, international box office returns in our sample were at least 7% lower than they would have been in the absence of pre-release piracy. By contrast, we do not see evidence of elevated sales displacement in US box office revenue following the adoption of BitTorrent, and we suggest that delayed legal availability of the content abroad may drive the losses to piracy.

EUROPA - Press Releases - Transparency of ACTA negotiations
MEMO/12/99
Brussels, 13 February 2012
Transparency of ACTA negotiations (Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement)
The negotiations of the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) started in June 2008 and were finalised in November 2010.
The European Union was represented during the negotiations by European Commission officials, as well as representatives of our Member States because ACTA touches upon both exclusive competences of the European Union and competences which are shared with the Member States. This factsheet aims at clarifying the way the European Parliament, civil society and all stakeholders have been informed and involved in the negotiation process.
Who sat at the negotiation table?
During the negotiation rounds, government officials from the negotiating countries were present in the room.
(see annex for a list of participants from the European Commission and the Member States):
For the European Union, this included a group of 4-8 Commission officials from the Directorates-General for Trade, Internal Market and Services, Justice, Information Society and Media, and Taxation and Customs Union. Moreover a group of 2-4 officials from the Member State holding the rotating EU Presidency were present, since they negotiated the criminal provisions on behalf of the EU Member States (criminal aspects of IPR enforcement being a Member State competence before the Lisbon Treaty and a shared competence after the entry into force of this treaty).
