Colombia extradites drug lord Daniel Barrera to US
Colombia has extradited one of the country's most notorious drug lords to the US, officials have said.
Daniel Barrera, known as "El Loco" (The Madman), was caught last year in Venezuela, and sent back to Colombia.
While on the run he had cosmetic surgery and tried to burn his fingerprints to conceal his identity.

Federal Judge Allows EFF's NSA Mass Spying Case to Proceed
Rejects Government's State Secret Privilege Claims in Jewel v. NSA and Shubert v. Obama
San Francisco - A federal judge today rejected the U.S. government's latest attempt to dismiss the Electronic Frontier Foundation's (EFF's) long-running challenge to the government's illegal dragnet surveillance programs. Today's ruling means the allegations at the heart of the Jewel case move forward under the supervision of a public federal court.
"The court rightly found that the traditional legal system can determine the legality of the mass, dragnet surveillance of innocent Americans and rejected the government's invocation of the state secrets privilege to have the case dismissed," said Cindy Cohn, EFF's Legal Director.

Sehr geehrter Innenminister Friedrich: Vergessen sie PRISM, hier ist was sie die USA wirklich fragen müssen.
Am Donnerstag fliegt eine deutsche Delegation inklusive Innenminister Friedrich in die USA, um am Freitag die größte Überwachungsmaschinerie der Menschheitsgeschichte zu besprechen. Damit er sich nicht mit Nebenschauplätzen wie dem Mini-Puzzlestück “PRISM” oder der Überwachung diplomatischer Einrichtungen aufhalten muss, haben wir mal die wirklich wichtigen Fragen zusammengestellt. Nämlich die zur Vollüberwachung aller sieben Milliarden Menschen der Erde.

Snowden's Ticket Out of Moscow: A Private Jet?
Venezuela, Bolivia and Nicaragua have offered asylum to former NSA contractor Edward Snowden, who is marooned in the Sheremetyevo airport in Moscow, trying to avoid extradition to the United States where he faces indictment under the Espionage Act. But if Snowden wants to go to one of those countries, will he be able to get there?
Cuba is the only country that a commercial plane carrying Snowden could safely land in without him facing the threat of US extradition—and en route he would have to pass through airspace belonging to the US or one of its allies, whereby the US government could force his plane to land based on extradition treaties. There is a route that Snowden could take to avoid crossing the airspace of Canada, Norway and the state of Florida, but he would need to charter a very expensive private plane to do so.

326 Zugriffe auf Vorratsdaten in Österreich
Das Verfahren in Luxemburg ist im Großen Gerichtssaal des Europäischen Gerichtshofs (EuGH) gestartet. Geklärt werden soll darin, ob die Vorratsdatenspeicherung mit der Charta der EU-Grundrechtscharta vereinbar ist. Während die Kläger auf fehlende Statistiken der Befürworter verweisen, sprechen sich die meisten Länder für die Vorratsdatenspeicherung aus. Österreich legt neue Zahlen für den Zeitraum von einem Jahr vor.
In Österreich gibt es für den Zeitraum vom 1. April 2012 bis zum 31. März 2013 (also ein Jahr Vorratsdatenspeicherung in Österreich) konkrete Zahlen zu staatsanwaltschaftlichen Auskünften von Vorratsdaten. Insgesamt gab es 326 Anfragen und in 312 Fällen auch die Auskünfte dazu. 139 der Auskünfte erfolgten in abgeschlossene Verfahren (nur diese wurden ausgewertet).
Bei den durch mithilfe von Vorratsdaten aufgeklärten Fällen waren 16 Fälle dem Diebstahl zuzuordnen, 12 den Suchtmittel, 12 dem Stalking, 7 dem Betrug und 7 dem Raub.

Berlin - Gleich zwei Delegationen reisen dieser Tage nach Washington: erst eine Gruppe von Spitzenbeamten und Geheimdienstvertretern, dann Innenminister Hans-Peter Friedrich (CSU) höchstpersönlich. Doch die Hoffnung auf befriedigende Informationen zum Ausmaß der US-Ausspähaktionen in Deutschland ist offenbar gering. "Vielleicht werden wir mehrere Gespräche dafür brauchen", sagte Regierungssprecher Steffen Seibert am Montag. Ob und wie man die Erkenntnisse öffentlich machen werde? "Wir werden das sehen, wenn die Gespräche vorbei sind."

Bin Laden raid files purged from Pentagon computers, sent to CIA
The nation's top special operations commander ordered military files about the Navy SEAL raid on Usama bin Laden's hideout to be purged from Defense Department computers and sent to the CIA, where they could be more easily shielded from ever being made public.
The secret move, described briefly in a draft report by the Pentagon's inspector general, set off no alarms within the Obama administration even though it appears to have sidestepped federal rules and perhaps also the Freedom of Information Act.

NSA: "Österreich schlechter geschützt als EU"
Der Sicherheitsexperte Gert-Rene Polli geht davon aus, dass die österreichische Regierung noch schlechter gegen Abhörangriffe geschützt ist als die vom US-Geheimdienst ausspionierten EU-Institutionen.
„Beim Cleanen von Räumen ist bisher fast nichts passiert", sagte der frühere oberste Terrorbekämpfer Österreichs am Montag der APA. Mit „Cleanen" (Reinigen) ist im Geheimdienstjargon die Suche nach Abhöranlagen gemeint. Laut Polli können sich Regierungsstellen aber nicht einmal mit Computer-Firewalls gegen Abhöraktionen schützen.
„Es gibt Zugriff über Firewalls hinweg und ich würde nicht ausschließen, dass auch auf Regierungsstellen zugegriffen werden kann", sagte Polli, der von 2002 bis 2008 Chef des Bundesamts für Verfassungsschutz und Terrorismusbekämpfung (BVT) war. Zwar habe auch die österreichische Regierung abhörsichere Räume, doch „gibt es eine Vielzahl von Kommunikation, die über ungesicherte Kanäle läuft."
