Entscheidung in Düsseldorf: Gericht stärkt Raucher im Kampf gegen Wohnungskündigung
Rauchen zählt zum vertragsgemäßen Gebrauch der Wohnung - mit dieser Begründung hat das Landgericht Düsseldorf einem starken Raucher Prozesskostenhilfe gewährt. Der Mann klagt gegen die Kündigung. Die Vorinstanz hatte seinen Antrag auf Beihilfe noch abgelehnt.
Der Fall sorgte in der vergangenen Woche für Aufsehen: Einem 74-jährigen Mann war die Wohnung fristlos gekündigt worden, weil er zu viel geraucht hatte. Die Vermieterin hatte argumentiert, die Geruchsbelästigung für die anderen Hausbewohner sei zu hoch. Der Mann klagte dagegen - doch das Amtsgericht Düsseldorf lehnte seinen Antrag auf Prozesskostenhilfe ab. Die Klage habe kaum Aussichten auf Erfolg, befand der Richter.
Die nächsthöhere Instanz sieht das jedoch anders - und hat die Entscheidung nun wieder gekippt. Das Landgericht Düsseldorf teilte mit, dem Mann die Prozesskostenhilfe bewilligt zu haben, nachdem dieser sofort Beschwerde gegen die Entscheidung eingelegt hatte.

Seven deaths are linked to fake ecstasy tablets, police say - The tablets are green with a Rolex Crown logo on them
The deaths of seven young people in the west of Scotland are linked to a batch of fake ecstasy drugs, Police Scotland has confirmed.
An 18-year-old woman from Alexandria in West Dunbartonshire died on Tuesday morning after taking the tablets.

Fahnder kamen Internet-Drogenring auf die Spur
Drogenfahnder in Wien und Salzburg haben die Zerschlagung eines über das Internet agierenden Drogenrings ermöglicht. Bei einer Razzia in der vergangenen Woche wurden in mehreren deutschen Bundesländern vier Verdächtige festgenommen.
Bei einem dieser Verdächtigen soll es sich um die Nummer eins eines weltweit agierenden Internet-Dealerrings handeln. Die Verhaftung von Kontaktpersonen in Wien im Juli 2012 und beinahe zeitgleich in Salzburg brachten die Fahnder auf die Spur des Deutschen. Drogenfahnder des Landeskriminalamtes Wien zogen laut einer Polizeisprecherin am 2. Juli 2012 den 25-jährigen Albert A. aus dem Verkehr. Der Wiener hatte einen schwunghaften Internethandel für Ecstasy bzw. MDMA, Kokain und Amphetaminen aufgezogen. In drei Monaten hatte er - allein arbeitend - etwa 400 Transaktionen durchgezogen, bis nach Indien, Australien und Südafrika. Knapp 350 davon konnten ihm nachgewiesen werden. Der 25-Jährige wurde verurteilt.

Mordkomplott gegen Joss Stone: Mann zu 18 Jahren Haft verurteilt
Weil er Joss Stone ausrauben und töten wollte, muss ein Mann in Großbritannien für 18 Jahre ins Gefängnis. Das hat ein Gericht im englischen Exeter entschieden. Der Täter war unter anderem mit einem Samurai-Schwert bewaffnet vor dem Haus der Sängerin aufgetaucht.
London - Das Strafmaß für seinen Komplizen stand bereits fest - nun ist auch der zweite Angeklagte wegen des Mordkomplotts gegen Joss Stone zu einer langjährigen Gefängnisstrafe verurteilt worden. Ein Gericht in Exeter schickte den 32-jährigen Briten für 18 Jahre ins Gefängnis.

A "foot soldier" who took part in a botched plot to rob and murder the singer Joss Stone has been jailed for 18 years.
Junior Bradshaw, 32, accompanied the "mastermind" of the conspiracy, Kevin Liverpool, on a trip to Devon where they planned to kill the 26-year-old soul musician at her remote home.

Documents Reveal How the NSA Cracked the Kryptos Sculpture Years Before the CIA
It took more than eight years for a CIA analyst and a California computer scientist to crack three of the four coded messages on the CIA’s famed Kryptos sculpture in the late ’90s.
Little did either of them know that a small group of cryptanalysts inside the NSA had beat them to it, and deciphered the same three sections of Kryptos years earlier — and they did it in less than a month, according to new documents obtained from the NSA.
These days the NSA is best known for its broad, indiscriminate spying on Americans and foreigners. But the Kryptos crack shows how some of the agency’s smartest geeks once blew off steam in the relatively quiet days between the end of the Cold War and the September 11 attacks.

You know the NSA is “listening,” nabbing Verizon customers’ cell phone metadata, but did you know that Motorola is listening too? A security engineer with a Motorola Droid X2 smartphone discovered that Motorola is silently slurping up personal info like passwords, GPS data from photos, email addresses, and usernames to name but a few. His phone is checking in with Motorola every nine minutes. Even worse, the data is often sent over an unencrypted HTTP channel. As a Slashdot comment stated, “The NSA would like to thank Motorola for their cooperation.”

Colombia extradites drug lord Daniel Barrera to US
Colombia has extradited one of the country's most notorious drug lords to the US, officials have said.
Daniel Barrera, known as "El Loco" (The Madman), was caught last year in Venezuela, and sent back to Colombia.
While on the run he had cosmetic surgery and tried to burn his fingerprints to conceal his identity.

San Francisco - A federal judge today rejected the U.S. government's latest attempt to dismiss the Electronic Frontier Foundation's (EFF's) long-running challenge to the government's illegal dragnet surveillance programs. Today's ruling means the allegations at the heart of the Jewel case move forward under the supervision of a public federal court.
"The court rightly found that the traditional legal system can determine the legality of the mass, dragnet surveillance of innocent Americans and rejected the government's invocation of the state secrets privilege to have the case dismissed," said Cindy Cohn, EFF's Legal Director.

Sehr geehrter Innenminister Friedrich: Vergessen sie PRISM, hier ist was sie die USA wirklich fragen müssen.
Am Donnerstag fliegt eine deutsche Delegation inklusive Innenminister Friedrich in die USA, um am Freitag die größte Überwachungsmaschinerie der Menschheitsgeschichte zu besprechen. Damit er sich nicht mit Nebenschauplätzen wie dem Mini-Puzzlestück “PRISM” oder der Überwachung diplomatischer Einrichtungen aufhalten muss, haben wir mal die wirklich wichtigen Fragen zusammengestellt. Nämlich die zur Vollüberwachung aller sieben Milliarden Menschen der Erde.

Snowden's Ticket Out of Moscow: A Private Jet?
Venezuela, Bolivia and Nicaragua have offered asylum to former NSA contractor Edward Snowden, who is marooned in the Sheremetyevo airport in Moscow, trying to avoid extradition to the United States where he faces indictment under the Espionage Act. But if Snowden wants to go to one of those countries, will he be able to get there?
Cuba is the only country that a commercial plane carrying Snowden could safely land in without him facing the threat of US extradition—and en route he would have to pass through airspace belonging to the US or one of its allies, whereby the US government could force his plane to land based on extradition treaties. There is a route that Snowden could take to avoid crossing the airspace of Canada, Norway and the state of Florida, but he would need to charter a very expensive private plane to do so.
