Mexican Narco Armor Vehicles

Over the past seven years Mexico has witnessed an unprecedented wave of violence. Increasing competition among drug cartels has left thousands dead and analysts wondering when the levels of violence will subside. According to several conservative estimates, the number of dead during the Felipe Calderon presidency (2006-2012) is around 70,000. Moreover, it is estimated that close to 30,000 disappeared during the same period. Ever since the Medellin and Cali drug cartels were dismantled in the 1990s, Mexico’s cartels became increasingly powerful. Over the past couple of decades Mexican cartels created effective drug distribution and transportation networks which enabled them to expand their reach and increase their pro´ts. These cartels, which now dominate the lucrative wholesale illicit drug market by controlling the great majority of the drugs that enter the United States, have branched out to many other illicit activities.

Fünf Wochen nach dem Oktoberfest: Italiener findet sein Auto wieder
Fünf Wochen lang hat ein Oktoberfestbesucher aus Südtirol sein Auto gesucht - nun hat er es wieder. Ein Leser der Münchner "Abendzeitung" hatte sich bei dem 40-jährigen Mann gemeldet, nachdem er durch die Berichterstattung auf das Auto aufmerksam geworden war. Wie die Zeitung am Samstag berichtete, war der Italiener am 5. Oktober auf das Oktoberfest gegangen und hatte sein Auto in der Nähe einer Trambahn-Haltestelle in einer Nebenstraße abgestellt.

Polizist nach Alko- Unfall mit Fußfessel im Dienst
Im Burgenland darf ein Polizist trotz Verurteilung wegen fahrlässiger Körperverletzung im Dienst bleiben – mit Fußfessel. Sein "elektronischer Arrest" dauert fünf Monate. Die "Krone" hat bei der zuständigen Sicherheitsdirektion nachgefragt, wie das funktioniert.

Neues Portal "MafiaLeaks": Anonym gegen die Mafia
Per Internet wollen mutige Italiener den Schweigekodex der Mafia durchbrechen. Informanten sollen sich fortan unerkannt an Behörden oder Medien wenden können - ohne Gefahr für Leib und Leben. Die Macher hoffen auch auf Post aus Deutschland.
Für die Mafia ist die Treue eine tragende Säule ihrer Macht. Clans fordern von ihren Mitgliedern die "Omertà", das Schweigen bis in den Tod. Mit oft brutaler Gewalt und Einschüchterungen sorgt die 'Ndrangheta dafür, dass keiner ausschert.
Nun eröffnen ein paar Italiener denjenigen, die geneigt sind, sich mitzuteilen, eine neue Möglichkeit: Sie starteten "MafiaLeaks", eine Internet-Plattform, über die Whistleblower Informationen anonym übermitteln können.

Fire at the Internet Archive
This morning at about 3:30 a.m. a fire started at the Internet Archive’s San Francisco scanning center. The good news is that no one was hurt and no data was lost. Our main building was not affected except for damage to one electrical run. This power issue caused us to lose power to some servers for a while.

Deer rescued from French garage roof
A deer got stuck on the garage roof on Monday night in the town of Verneuil-sur-Indre in the Indre-et-Loire department of central France.
After a three-hour rescue mission conducted by local government agents, the animal was finally back on firm ground. Reports say that the animal probably ended up on the roof by way of a perch from a neighbouring garden.

The Silk Road ist wieder online
Der Dark Net-Marktplatz The Silk Road ist nach der Verhaftung des ursprünglichen Betreibers Ross William Ulbricht wieder online. Der Umschlagplatz für Drogen und andere illegale oder fragwürdige Gegenstände und Dienstleistungen ging verschiedenen Berichten zufolge am Mittwoch Vormittag (US-Zeit) wieder online. Der Eigentümer der neuen Seite bezeichnet sich, wie auch bereits Ulbricht, selbst als „Dread Pirate Roberts“.

The Silk Road Is Back
Silk Road is rising from the dead. After the FBI seized the deep web's favourite illegal drug market and arrested its alleged founder Ross Ulbricht last month (for, among other things, ordering a hit through his own website), the online-marketplace-cum-libertarian-movement has found a new home and opened for business at 16:20 GMT this afternoon. In the wake of the original Silk Road's closure, everything became a little turbulent for its users. First, they had to get used to not getting high-quality, peer-reviewed drugs delivered direct to their sofas. (Though presumably they didn't stop getting high, instead forced back to the 'mystery mix' street dealers and surly ex-Balkan war criminals who have spent years filling cities with drugs at night.) Some users were pissed off that they'd lost all the Bitcoin wealth they'd amassed, or that paid-for orders would go undelivered, while small-time dealers freaked out about how they suddenly lacked the funds to pay off debts owed to drug sellers higher up the food chain.
