Pirate Bay switches address for the sixth time this year
Peer-to-peer network Pirate Bay has been forced to change its domain name for the sixth time this year after being shut down by the authorities in multiple countries.
The file-sharing service actively campaigns against copyright law and provides links to illegally copied films, music and games, making it the subject of determined lawsuits for copyright infringement.

Uruguay's Prez Rips Into U.N. Official Over Marijuana Law: ‘Stop Lying'
José “Pepe” Mujica shot back on Friday at the president of the International Narcotics Control Board, a U.N. agency, for saying that his administration refused to meet with the agency’s officials before legalizing marijuana this week.
Mujica batted down the criticism, insisting that his administration is open to discussing the law and accusing the INCB President Raymond Yans of applying a double standard by criticizing Uruguay, even as U.S. states pass laws to legalize recreational marijuana consumption.

SteamOS beta, early build-your-own system requirements
As it announced earlier this week, Valve shipped its 300 Steam Machine prototypes to its randomly selected beta testers late today. That announcement was accompanied by the first public release of SteamOS, the currently-in-beta Linux-based operating system that will power Valve's new gaming-PCs-turned-consoles.
Valve's announcement post has given us a better idea of exactly what SteamOS includes: it's based on Debian 7 ("Wheezy"), which Valve has "optimize[d]... for a living room experience." It comes with the Gnome desktop environment pre-installed, and users are free to download and install other software to the OS as they see fit—while SteamOS is clearly being built with gaming in mind, there's nothing to stop you from loading it up with productivity software and browsers and using it as a work PC, either.

Angriff auf Mobilfunknetze: NSA kann fast alle Handy-Gespräche mithören
Bisher ging es nur um Verbindungs- und Standortdaten, nun kommt heraus: Die NSA kann im großen Stil auch den Inhalt von Handy-Gesprächen mitschneiden. Das Gegenmittel setzen nur wenige Netzbetreiber ein - darunter die Deutsche Telekom.
Hamburg - Noch vor kurzem warnte Sicherheitsexperte Jürgen Schmidt vom Fachmagazin "c't": "Die Verschlüsselung von Mobilfunknetzen ist kaputt." Interessierte Privatleute hätten das System geknackt, man müsse davon ausgehen, dass auch "Geheimdienste wie die NSA das können". Jetzt kommt die Bestätigung: In einem Bericht vom Samstag veröffentlicht die "Washington Post" Geheimdokumente aus dem Bestand des Whistleblowers Edward Snowden, die Schmidts Befürchtung belegen.

NSA-Chef Alexander hatte sich zuvor dagegen ausgesprochen
Einige Mitarbeiter der amerikanischen Spionagebehörde NSA würden nach einem Medienbericht Straffreiheit für Whistleblower Edward Snowden befürworten, um ihn in die USA zurück zu bekommen. Der Fernsehsender CBS News zitierte dazu am Freitag einen führenden Ermittler aus einem Bericht, der am Sonntag vollständig ausgestrahlt werden soll.

Überwachung in Entenhausen: Phantomias gegen die NSA
Die NSA schnüffelt in Entenhausen, im aktuellen Lustigen Taschenbuch haben die Spione einen Gastauftritt. Die Geschichte "Verdächtig sicher" befasst sich kritisch mit der Totalüberwachung, die fast alle Bürger gutheißen - bis Donald zum Whistleblower wird.
Phantomias hat es schwer in diesen Tagen. Seit die NSA die ganze Stadt mit Kameras überwacht, ist Entenhausens Superheld nämlich arbeitslos: Alle Ganoven werden auf frischer Tat ertappt, oft ist die Polizei sogar schon da, bevor das Tor des Juweliergeschäfts aufgebrochen ist. In einer totalüberwachten Stadt sind Superhelden überflüssig, denn alle Straßen sind immer sicher. Oder etwa nicht?

Canada vows to protect Santa Claus from Russian troops in the Arctic
Canada has vowed to defend the North Pole and Santa Claus, insisting the mythical figure is a citizen, after Russia ordered its military to step up its Arctic presence.
Paul Calandra, parliamentary secretary to the prime minister, cited Canada's claim of the North Pole to bash an opposition party in Parliament.
"We are defending the north further by making a claim on the North Pole," he said.

Video-Auftritt im EU-Parlament: Snowden darf nun doch reden
Europas Christdemokraten wollten verhindern, dass Edward Snowden Fragen von EU-Parlamentariern beantworten darf. Nun gaben sie ihren Widerstand auf - der Whistleblower kann jedoch frühestens im Januar per Videozuschaltung auftreten.
Der geplante Video-Auftritt von NSA-Whistleblower Edward Snowden vor dem Europaparlament kann nun doch stattfinden. Darauf einigten sich die Fraktionsspitzen in einer Sitzung am Donnerstag. Wie SPIEGEL ONLINE berichtete, hatten Abgeordnete der Europäischen Volkspartei (EVP) den Auftritt zuvor zu verhindern versucht.
