NSA, DHS Sued For Threatening People Who Created Parody Merchandise
You may recall the story from a few months back about the NSA supposedly issuing a takedown over some parody NSA merchandise. The NSA later claimed that it had no problem with the parody T-shirt that was specified, but did admit that a few years ago, it had sent a cease-and-desist letter to Zazzle, the platform that many people use to make such branded content, telling them they couldn't sell any merchandise with the NSA seal, since it would be a violation of 50 USC 3613, which says it's against the law to "misuse" the NSA's logo. It turns out that the Department of Homeland Security, DHS, had sent a similar letter, focusing on 18 USC 506, saying it's a crime to "mutilate or alter the seal of any department or agency of the United States."

Dealende Pädagogin vor Gericht: Lehrerin soll Drogen verkauft haben
Zwei Kilo Marihuana sowie ein bisschen Haschisch und Amphetamine fand die Polizei bei ihr, jetzt steht die Kunst- und Mathe-Lehrerin vor Gericht. Der Vorwurf: Sie habe gedealt, auch Jugendliche sollen zu ihren Kunden gehört haben. Wohl aber keine eigenen Schüler.
Ausgerechnet eine Lehrerin soll in der Pfalz jahrelang Cannabis an Minderjährige und junge Erwachsene verkauft haben. Die 50-Jährige steht nun in Neustadt an der Weinstraße vor Gericht. Ihr droht eine mehrjährige Haftstrafe.

Im Mai 2013 ist es passiert. Da erblickte Edward Snowden das Licht der Öffentlichkeit und veränderte die Welt. Durch seine Enthüllungen über die weltweiten Spionagetätigkeiten des US-Geheimdienstes NSA ist nun klar, dass man Verschwörungstheoretiker manchmal durchaus ernst nehmen kann. Dass elektronische Kommunikation nicht immer privat stattfindet. Dass Big Brother schlicht und einfach Realität geworden ist.

Drone-Mounted Laser Weapons Are On the Way
DARPA is funding research into drone-mounted laser weapons. The project, called Endurance, is referred to in DARPA's 2014 budget request as being tasked with the development of 'technology for pod-mounted lasers to protect a variety of airborne platforms from emerging and legacy EO/IR guided surface-to-air missiles.' The budget explains that it will be the first application of DARPA's much-discussed Excalibur laser defense system, which developed lasers powerful enough to use as weapons.
