Berlusconis hässlicher Plan


Silvio Berlusconi hat sein Land erneut in Geiselhaft genommen. Nach dem Rücktritt seiner Minister steht die Regierung nach nur fünf Monaten vor dem Aus. Premier Letta will den Kampf aufnehmen - doch es gibt keine einfache Lösung für das Chaos.

Rom - Der Regierungschef ertrug bislang alles mit demonstrativer Gelassenheit. Auf all die Forderungen und Drohgebärden, die ihm Silvio Berlusconi und dessen Anhänger zuletzt entgegenschleuderten, reagierte Enrico Letta nüchtern, stets mahnte er zu Verantwortungsbewusstsein und Ruhe.

Giant mushroom found in Polish forest


A massive mushroom has been found in a forest in north-western Poland.

The boletus, which weighs 3kg and has a diameter of 40cm, was found in the Bydgoszcz forest by a man from Ciechocinek.

The Man Who Gets The Science Right On 'The Big Bang Theory'


Sure, Bob Newhart may have won his first Emmy for guest-starring as Professor Proton on the hugely popular show The Big Bang Theory, about four young scientists at Caltech. But behind the scenes is a real-life professor, David Saltzberg of UCLA.

Saltzberg studies high-energy particle physics and high-energy neutrino astronomy, using radio-detection techniques when he's not working as The Big Bang Theory's science consultant.

Pasta-maker in hot water as rival posts pro-gay imagery on social media


Spaghetti wars have broken out in Italy as rivals of the world's leading pasta-maker were this weekend taking full advantage of a row over homophobia to promote their own pro-gay credentials.

Bertolli Germany has been posting pro-gay imagery on its social media feeds, pushing the slogan "Love and pasta for all" and encouraging the re-emergence of a 2009 advert that featured a male customer in a pasta restaurant falling for a handsome waiter.

Since 2010, the National Security Agency has been exploiting its huge collections of data to create sophisticated graphs of some Americans’ social connections that can identify their associates, their locations at certain times, their traveling companions and other personal information, according to newly disclosed documents and interviews with officials.
