The next time you upload a copyrighted video to Youtube, you're going to pay.

The next time you try to upload a video to YouTube that isn't supposed to be there, you may find it being monetized by the original content owner. That's because YouTube has recently partnered up with Nexicon, a company that acts as the middleman between content monitoring and copyright owners, enabling them to either send out automated takedown notices or monetize the unauthorized streams. And this new service isn't likely to stop at YouTube, as the company plans to launch a similar one that will sort through numerous P2P networks for copyrighted content in order to send bills to those users. Best of all, Nexicon wants to patent the entire system.

And another thing...

All the characters have been blown to pieces, and the trilogy is already two books too long.

But the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy has never had a problem with highly improbable events.

Douglas Adams died in 2001, having written five of the enduringly popular Hitchhiker books - still inaccurately dubbed a trilogy.

About 16 million copies of the books have been sold worldwide, but fans were left disappointed when it seemed as though Adams' early death ended the series with all the main characters seemingly meeting a grizzly end.

Turkey bans biologist Richard Dawkins' website - The Root of All Evil?

Turkish internet users have been blocked via a court order from accessing the site of prominent British biologist Richard Dawkins after complaints from lawyers for Islamic creationist author Adnan Oktar, the website of Turkish television station NTV reported on Wednesday.

monstersandcritics.com

The Root of All Evil? is a television documentary, written and presented by Richard Dawkins, in which he argues that the world would be better off without religion. The documentary was first broadcast in January 2006, in the form of two 45-minute episodes (excluding advertisement breaks), on Channel 4 in the UK. Dawkins has said that the title "The Root of All Evil?" was not his preferred choice, but that Channel 4 had insisted on it to create controversy.[1] His sole concession from the producers on the title was the addition of the question mark. Dawkins has stated that the notion of anything being the root of all evil is ridiculous.[2] Dawkins's book The God Delusion, released in September 2006, goes on to examine the topics raised in the documentary in greater detail. The God Delusion explores the unproven beliefs that are treated as factual by many religions and the extremes to which some followers have taken them. Dawkins opens the programme by describing the "would-be murderers . . . who want to kill you and me, and themselves, because they're motivated by what they think is the highest ideal." Dawkins argues that "the process of non-thinking called faith" is not a way of understanding the world, but instead stands in fundamental opposition to modern science and the scientific method, and is divisive and dangerous.

Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms Loses 418 Laptops

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (now, with Explosives!) LOST 418 LAPTOPS and 76 weapons during a five year period ending in 2007. Sounds like they need to focus more on the tobacco and firearms, and lay off the alcohol.

LHC Fails Thunderstorm Test

Nature had her own ideas about testing LHC safety. A thunderstorm last Friday knocked out some transformers at the LHC near Geneva that are part of the helium cooling system, that cools the magnets that keep the proton beams travelling (near light speed) on a circular path through the collider. Technicians have been scrambling to fix the problems, but not before some magnets warmed well above standard operating temperatures, some reaching almost 7K from the usual ultra cold 1.9K .
