Is Google Turning Into Big Brother?
The Debut of Chrome, Google's New Browser, May Have Been Quiet for a Reason
While we're transfixed by the presidential election, in the world of high tech another duel between two well-funded, take-no-quarter candidates has just emerged & and in the long run the impact on our daily lives may be nearly as great -- and perhaps even sinister.
As you probably heard, on Monday -- that is, on a national holiday, when business announcements are almost never made -- Google rolled out Chrome, its new Web browser.

Behind the Dude: Steve Buscemi on "The Big Lebowski"
How did you first hear about The Big Lebowski? I only remember getting the script. Ethan probably called me and said, "We have a script and we're sending it. Tell us what you think." As simple as that. I do remember my impressions reading it, that it was funny and unpredictable. I couldn't tell where it was going. But also, specifically in looking at the Donny part, I kept thinking that there was gonna be more. I was feeling myself getting sort of upset on Donny's behalf, that Walter was treating him that way, and thinking, "This guy doesn't deserve this."

LHC Webcast - Large Hadron Collider

Google to ‘anonymize’ user IPs after 9 months - EU pressure? What EU pressure?
After continued pressure from EU regulators, Google has once again revised its data retention policies, saying it will "anonymize" user IP addresses after 9 months.
On Monday, Google deputy counsel Nicole Wong announced the change during an online privacy panel discussion in Mountain View, California – though she initially avoided mention of the EU.

Google Wants to Index Millions of Old Newspapers
Remember the days before the Internet when you would go to the library to browse old microfilm of newspapers and magazines for research? I don’t either, but in any event, Google’s latest initiative looks to bring all of that content online and make it searchable. The company is adding digital archives to Google News, allowing you to see full scans of original newspapers from the pre-Web era in addition to being able to search the text of them.
To use the new service, you can either go to the Google News Archive, or search Google News and switch to the “timeline” view. When a story is viewable in its original format, the search result will list “Google News Archive” next to the name of the source.

The Ultimate Guide to Banksy
And although the pseudonym and the signature style of the artist are well known, there’s not much else that we know for sure about Banksy. A few tidbits of information are widely accepted: he is from Bristol, UK, and got involved in graffiti art sometime in the early 90s. He began to gain widespread notoriety around 2003. He was born in or around 1974 and sports a silver tooth. He is, according to the few people who have met him as Banksy, an unassuming and typical-looking man.
His refusal to be interviewed in person or even to reveal his real name has added to his mystique over the years. In the UK (and, increasingly, in other parts of the world) Banksy-spotters claim to know the artist’s real identity on a fairly regular basis. Although he’s been caught on CCTV a few times, he is clever enough to keep his identity a mystery.

Legalizing Weed would Inject roughly $10 Billion into the Economy
There is some debate among analysts that the solution to the U.S.’s economic problems is to legalize drugs. I’ll get to how they came to that conclusion in just a minute, but realistically, there are two arguments at play here. The first argument is about legalizing only marijuana, and the second concerns legalizing all street drugs.
Now I know your first instinct is to recoil in horror and think that such a thing is crazy. For the time being, let’s suspend our frame of reference and hold off on moral judgments. Instead, let’s look at it based on numbers.
