Man Killed By Exploding Lava Lamp
Claudia and Bill Quinn drove from their home in Auburn to check on their youngest son. They thought maybe he'd just overslept. They were devastated by what they found.
"I looked around the corner and saw his body slumped there in the corner and just couldn't believe what I saw," said Quinn's father.
"There was glass from the kitchen clear to the living room," his mom told us. "They said it appeared that a piece of glass punctured his heart."

NASA mulls nuclear Moon reactor
The Moon is terrific as far as desolate orbiting rocks go, but by all accounts, it's rather lacking in the nuclear power generator department. Which is a shame because that means NASA needs to build one itself to juice up any future lunar outposts.
Indeed, America's space agency wants to outsource its lunar R&D operations some 384,403km above the Earth by 2020 – but it has no plans to be lighting torches and taking cold showers when it gets there. The goal is to spread civilization to the stars, after all.

ScanRobot Automates Copyright Infringement
Although I’d love to be able to scan in my entire collection of comic books and take them everywhere I go, I just don’t have the time or patience. Or a scanner. Robots are great at tedious and repetitive tasks, but when it comes to scanning important manuscripts like my collection of 23.5 Tintin books, the tricky bit involves page-turning. Such a delicate and precise procedure demands either an expensive and complicated robot, or a simple idea, like the ScanRobot.

Why YouTube Videos Will Never Be Downloadable (Legally, Anyway)
YouTube, in its quest to make nice with copyright holders, has partnered with Nexicon, a Malibu-based digital rights management provider.
Under their arrangement, Nexicon will monitor YouTube for copyrighted material. When Nexicon identifies videos that violate a copyright, it will give the copyright owner the option to have the videos removed from the site or to leave them up and monetize them.
It's been more than a year since Google rolled out Video ID, an identification and content management system. And in that time, the company says content providers -- including Viacom -- are increasingly choosing to leave copyrighted videos up.
