Israel a Human Trafficking Haven


Human trafficking, is turning into a real problem in Israel, where law enforcement officials say women are bought and sold into the indentured servitude of the sex industry.

The women in question are usually from the former Soviet Union and are traded by the Russian mob. The same Bedouins who smuggle weapons into Israel bring the women up through the Egyptian desert, oftentimes with a load of weapons.

Donkey cart beats out Porsche in Portuguese road race


A donkey cart beat a Porsche in a race held in a northern Portuguese city over the weekend to see which mode of transportation could best handle car congestion. The cart, pulled by a seven-year-old donkey named Tironi, was the first to reach the port city of Viana do Castelo from the suburb of Areosa some two kilometres (just over one mile) away.

Anarchists' Convention Debates Voting


A group of anarchists is taking an unusual step to make its political voice heard - going to the polls.

Anarchists generally pride themselves on their rejection of government and its authority. But a faction of them fed up with the war in Iraq say they plan to cast anti-Bush votes this fall.

Hong Kong police probe insect-fight gambling ring


Hong Kong's obsession with gambling reached unusual extremes with the arrest of 115 people for betting on insect fights, police said. The city is well known as a haven for China's horse racing and soccer gamblers, but raids on a club in the seedy Mongkok district of Kowloon broke a betting syndicate gambled on battles between huge crickets.
