Courtney Charged With Assault With Deadly Weapon
"CJ" has obtained a copy of a brand new charge filed against Courtney Love. And this time it involved assault with a deadly weapon likely to produce great bodily injury. The charge stems from an incident last April 25th, to which Los Angeles Police responded. According to documents from the District Attorney, Love assaulted a woman by the name of Kristin King by throwing a bottle and a metal flashlight at her.

Deputy shot in leg during search: Fellow deputy accidentally fired
A Kandiyohi County sheriff’s deputy was accidentally shot in the leg Tuesday while executing a “high-risk” search warrant in Swift Falls.
Deputy Mike Roe was taken by ambulance to the Benson Hospital where he was airlifted to North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale.

Official Resigns Over Prostitution Scandal
Peru's agriculture minister has resigned after reports a hotel owned by his family procured teenage prostitutes for guests.
"I have asked President (Alejandro) Toledo to allow me to present my resignation," the minister, Jose Leon, told reporters after meeting the president Monday night. Toledo accepted the resignation.
The scandal broke Sunday night when America Television's Cuarto Poder program sent a reporter to the hotel, filming with a hidden camera, who asked a hotel worker to get him teenagers. He was told they would be there in 20 minutes.

Microsoft confirms EC appeal
Microsoft has confirmed that it is taking the EC back to court to appeal against the €497m fine imposed on the company. It also wants to overturn the EC competition ruling that it must offer a version of Windows without its Media Player and supplies competitors with more information about the internal workings of Windows.
Horacio Gutierrez, associate general counsel for Microsoft Europe, said the interests of European businesses and consumers "should be at the heart of this case".

Sony - BMG wedding hit by EC spoiler
Sony and Bertelsmann Music Group (BMG) have denied that they work together to fix CD prices and that a merger of the two record companies would reduce competition.
Last month the EC sent the companies a "statement of objections" detailing its concerns about the proposed merger. Competition Commissioner Mario Monti believes the deal would further reduce consumer choice. He is also concerned that savings in overheads made by the companies would not be passed onto customers in the form of lower prices.

An American pill, which is claimed to prevent hangovers, has gone on sale today on the British high street.
RU-21, named after the legal drinking age in the United States, is now available from the pharmacy chain Superdrug, despite the concerns of alcohol abuse charities.

Anlässlich der bevorstehenden EU- und Kommunalwahlen hat ein Brite seine Wahlstimme beim Online-Auktionshaus eBay zur Versteigerung angeboten.
Zu Beginn der Auktion lag der Mindestpreis bei 1,48 Euro. Jedoch fanden sich keine Interessenten an der Stimme. Schließlich wurden die regionalen Behörden auf die Auktion aufmerksam und beendeten die Versteigerung.

Erfolg durch Verbraucherproteste-Universal liefert Deutsche CDs ohne Kopierschutz
Universal Music Deutschland wird zukünftig Musik-CDs von deutschen Künstlern nicht mehr mit einem Kopierschutz versehen. Der Kopierschutz würde vielfach ein Abspielen in Navigationssystemen oder Autoradios mit CD verhindern und führte zu Protesten.
Allerdings werden Musik-CDs internationaler Künstler in Deutschland auch weiterhin den Kopierschutz haben. In Österreich sind einige CDs von Künstlern bisher schon ohne Kopierschutz hergestellt worden.

USA planen Gründung eines Inlandsgeheimdienstes
Um die Sicherheit im eigenen Land zu schützen, nehmen sich die Amerikaner ein Beispiel an den Briten. Nach dem Vorbild des britischen MI5 soll in den USA ein Inlandsgeheimdienst gegründet werden.
Damit sollen Versäumnisse, wie sie vor dem 11. September passiert waren, verhindert werden. Die bisherigen 'Hauptgeheimdienste' sind CIA, NSA, und DIA. FBI-Direktor Robert Mueller sprach sich dafür aus, eine Geheimdienstabteilung im FBI zu bilden.

Police to monitor net chat rooms
Police around the world are planning to monitor conversations on internet chat rooms so they can stop paedophiles from grooming their victims over the web.
The idea emerged at a meeting in London of the Virtual Global Task Force, which was set up six months ago to make the internet safer for young people.
