Magicians Take Sides Over Houdini Exhibit
The secret of Harry Houdini's signature "Metamorphosis" escape trick is out of the bag. A new exhibit, "A.K.A. Houdini," opened Wednesday at the Outagamie Museum, revealing how Houdini, handcuffed inside a sack and locked in a trunk, somehow managed to switch places with an assistant on the outside. First quantum cryptography network unveiled
The first computer network in which communication is secured with quantum cryptography is up and running in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Chip Elliott, leader of the quantum engineering team at BBN Technologies in Cambridge, sent the first packets of data across the Quantum Net (Qnet) on Thursday. The project is funded by the Pentagon's Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency.

Students accused of giving teacher marijuana cookie
Two Southern California high school students were arrested for allegedly giving a marijuana-laced cookie to a Chino Hills teacher who collapsed in class, officials said.
The boys, both 17, were arrested Thursday at Ayala High School after the 53-year-old U.S. history teacher ate the cookie and collapsed during class May 28. They face felony charges related to poisoning, authorities said Friday.

Investors worry job growth will hurt their profits
The increase in American job growth - nearly one million in the last three months - plus rising wages has corporate investors nervous that profit margins won't be as astronomically high as they have been recently.
"I think we know corporate profit growth can't stay at the rate we've seen in recent quarters," said economist Ethan Harris. "(Employers) have been squeezing the work force pretty aggressively ... and holding the line on wages."

Conservatives R.A.G. Bush
Republicans Against George Bush has a Web site at ragbush.com, saying, "We are a group of concerned Americans who no longer feel that supporting George bush is the right thing for the United States or the Republican Party."
They want to vote against Bush this year as a protest to try to "pull the GOP back towards a limited/small government platform ... In doing these things, we would also like to prevent Hillary from becoming president in 2008."

Land your plane correctly
A Cessna aircraft crashed at Laguna Quays resort, 100km north of Mackay at 1pm this afternoon.
All four people on board were lucky to survive and are being treated in Proserpine and Mackay Hospitals.

Deer breaks into church

Friday night, a whitetail yearling, panting for something, crashed through a large plate-glass window and into Zion United Methodist Church at 1001 24th Ave. S. in Grand Forks.

Iraq seeks '.IQ' domain to make its mark on Net
Mensa members not amused
Iraq's media commission and the U.S.-led administration in Iraq want to set up Web addresses using the domain code ".IQ" as the final tag. That would mean addresses for Web pages would be distinctively identified on the Internet with Iraq's own country code.

Woman awarded $1.2 million for ant attack at nursing home
A jury has awarded $1.2 million to a 93-year-old woman who was stung by a swarm of fire ants in her nursing home bed.
Pearl Smith had blisters on her arm, neck, back and upper torso from the scores of stings she suffered in 2002 at the Surrey Place nursing home. She could not get out of bed to escape the ants.
