Die Kokainproblematik nimmt in Wien deutlich zu. Zu diesem Schluss kommt die Medizinische Universität, die neben neun anderen Städten an einer EU-Studie teilgenommen hat. Als Konsequenz wird ab dem 19. April eine wöchentliche, telefonische Sprechstunde an der Uni-Klinik für Psychiatrie eingerichtet, die Betroffenen beratend zur Seite stehen soll. Mit den Ergebnissen bewege sich die Bundeshauptstadt durchaus im europäischen Trend, stellte Gabriele Fischer als Leiterin der Studie bei deren Präsentation am Dienstag klar.

Baby als Wurfgeschoss
Mutter, Sohn und Schwiegersohn - recht familiär ging es am Mittwoch im Grazer Straflandesgericht auf der Anklagebank zu. Die ganze Runde musste sich wegen einer gröberen Auseinandersetzung im Lokal eines Einkaufszentrums verantworten. Dabei wurden nicht nur die Polizisten wüst beschimpft, im allgemeinen Wirbel warf die Frau ihre einjährige Enkeltochter in die Menge. Ein Polizist fing das Kind gerade noch auf. Alle drei wurden schuldig gesprochen und bekamen Geldstrafen.

Die Entwicklung des IBM-Großrechners seit 1964 spiegelt auch die Geschichte des weltgrößten IT-Konzerns wider: vom technischen Pionier zum scheinbar unangefochtenen Marktführer, vom erstarrten Mainframer zum serviceorientierten Lösungsanbieter. Die Urenkel des legendären "System/360" stehen noch heute in den IT-Zentren, wenngleich mit veränderten Rollen.

We owe much gratitude to Sony, for they were responsible for making the personal stereo cassette player a reality. For over 25 years, Sony has been bringing a personal, portable stereo music experience to our ears--creativity and innovation have continued to make Walkman a useful product to everyone. Walkman has reached pop icon status and become a symbol of youth, individuality and freedom. In 1979 Sony warned, "Remember the name: Walkman." How could we forget?

i took apart my gameboy
I dissassembled a standard GameBoy Advance SP. It's not too impressive a feat, technically, but it's useful as a reference for future GameBoy hacking or modding. There aren't really any gotchas, and no dangerous voltage, so if you have the right tools, it's a good easy device to dig into.

Did you know that you can add your own search engines into Firefox's Toolbar Search box? In a previous post, I pointed you to a tutorial on how to create your own search plugins. If you don't want to create your own, mozdev.org has a great list of plugins that you can easily install.

Gulf War II Syndrome?
Four soldiers from a New York Army National Guard company serving in Iraq are contaminated with radiation likely caused by dust from depleted uranium shells fired by U.S. troops, a Daily News investigation has found.
They are among several members of the same company, the 442nd Military Police, who say they have been battling persistent physical ailments that began last summer in the Iraqi town of Samawah.
