Live Music Archive hits 10,000 free shows
Yippie!
The Live music archive just received its 10,000th concert recording! Congratulations and thanks to the etree community and the artists and bands that have a made this a fantastic repository of creative works.
A few stats: Now stored: 10,000 shows, 150,000 tracks, from almost 500 bands, in 18 months. About 10 Terabytes of information on 40 Terabytes of disk space on 60 linux boxes. almost 1,000 uploaders, 300 uploaders have uploaded more than 10 shows, Brad Lablanc is the top uploader at 251 concerts Usage: about 1`Petabyte of concerts have been downloaded (1,000,000,000,000,000 bytes) Or about 1 Million shows. Currently 400megabits/sec of outbound bandwidth.

A Tale of Two Marijuanas
It seems governments maintain two standards for marijuana. The "good" kind is synthetically derived from the raw plant by pharmaceutical corporations, to be sold at top dollar to those fortunate souls with health insurance. The "bad" kind is the inexpensive, unpatentable raw plant variety that can land a person in jail for life for daring to smoke it.

Unter dem Motto "Nur nichts anbrennen lassen!" geht es ab 20. März im Schauspielhaus Graz auf der Ebene 3 ans Eingemachte, wenn "the dressed chef" Kurt Palm zum Kochlöffel greift und in den Werken von James Joyce, Adalbert Stifter, Franz Kafka und Wolfgang Amadè Mozart solange umrührt, bis eine Buchstabensuppe herauskommt, die zwar unleserlich ist, dafür aber umso besser schmeckt. Die sehr vier bunten Kochtheater-Abende im Schauspielhaus sind Schriftstellern gewidmet (Mozart hat nicht nur komponiert!), mit denen sich Palm seit vielen Jahren beschäftigt und deren Werk er in bester Volkshochschultradition einem breiteren Publikum im wahrsten Sinn des Wortes schmackhaft machen möchte.

Google mail is evil - privacy advocates
This week should have seen a public relations triumph for Google. The company began offering a free e-mail service with 100 times as much storage as Yahoo's $59.99 service. Instead the criticism has taken Google by surprise, as privacy advocates who had never before voiced criticism stepped forward. Google has previously responded to privacy concerns by saying, "we're nice, trust us" or pointing users to the company's mission statement of "do no evil". Such trite sentiments didn't work this time; even The Drudge Report piled in.

Make Your Own TRON Costume
The bust began with a standard life-mask made with plaster impregnated bandages available at craft and medical supply stores. As you might have guessed, I sat for about half an hour with pieces of drinking straw up my nose, while my mother wrapped my Vaseline coated face in plaster bandage. After the bandages had set, the cast was carefully removed and the breathing holes patched with small pieces of bandage, and more Vaseline applied to the inner surface of the mold. I then poured plaster of paris into the life-mask, let it set, and carefully removed the finished life-mask. I sculpted a bust around the life-mask, all the way down to the beginning of the shoulders. This involved taking measurements from my head and comparing the bust to them, until the basic geometric requirements had been met, and then using a bit of "finesse" to make everything fit together properly.

What is FluxBox
Fluxbox is yet another windowmanager for X. It's based on the Blackbox 0.61.1 code. Fluxbox looks like blackbox and handles styles, colors, window placement and similar thing exactly like blackbox (100% theme/style compability).
So what's the difference between fluxbox and blackbox then? The answer is: LOTS! Here is a list of features that fluxbox already has, or is in the works...

Vibrating condom is top draw at inventors' fair
A vibrating condom and an anti-haemorrhoid chair have become the stars of the show at an inventors' trade fair in Geneva.
The condom with an inbuilt vibrator created by a Taiwanese man has proved a top draw for hundreds of visitors to the fair.
