Atlantis ist endlich wieder aufgetaucht, vorerst aber nur im Internet


Es war einmal ein Journalist, der hatte einen Traum. Er wollte König werden. So überlegte er hin und überlegte her, bis er eines Tages die zündende Idee hatte: Warum, dachte er, werde ich nicht einfach König von Atlantis? Und das war eine feine Idee, wie sich alsbald bei einem klugen Notar herausstellte. Mit dessen Hilfe sicherte sich unser Journalist 1967 weltweit die Rechte an dem einst im Meer versunkenen Kontinent Atlantis und ließ sich drei Monate später als König ausrufen.

Pub-Besuche gut fürs Gehirn


Britische Studie: Soziale Aktivitäten wie eben Pub-Besuche fördern die mentalen Fähigkeiten. Pub-Besuche sind zwar unvorteilhaft für die Figur, können aber in gewissen Fällen gut für das Gehirn sein. Das haben Wissenschafter des University College London herausgefunden.

Pflanzen mixen sich ihren eigenen Schutz-Cocktail


Forscher des Kölner Max-Planck-Institutes haben einen bisher unbekannten chemischen Cocktail entdeckt, der es Pflanzen ermöglicht, die meisten Angriffe krankheitserregender Mikroorganismen wie Viren, Bakterien und Pilzen erfolgreich abzuwehren.

New radio Hitch-Hiker's


Production is under way on the Tertiary Phase of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, with episodes due to begin airing on Radio 4 in spring 2004. As we reported in September, independent company Above the Title have the rights to adapt Douglas Adams' novels for radio. It's now become clear that three of the Hitchhikers' novels are indeed getting their first radio adaptation.

Fox Broadcasting is again at the center of a trademark dispute. The television company that sued the author of a critical book for using its tagline, "fair and balanced," is being sued for allegedly misappropriating the name of an Atlanta hip-hop band.

Latest Sun Flare Put at X28, Strongest on Record


NOAA's Space Environment Center (SEC) has classified this flare as an X28, making it in fact the strongest ever recorded. A source told SPACE.com that the SEC is aware other scientists still think the flare was even stronger. The article below remains as it originally appeared.

Courtney Love beats Bill Clinton for worst lie of our lifetime - "I do not take narcotics"


Despite her arrest last month for being under the influence of a controlled substance and her subsequent hospitalization for an accidental painkiller overdose, the former Queen of Grunge insists she doesn't have a problem.

Microsoft forgets to renew hotmail.co.uk domain


Microsoft was busy covering up an almighty cock-up last night after forgetting to renew its hotmail.co.uk domain name.

Despite being warned that the domain for its popular Web mail service was up for renewal, it seems Microsoft - or whoever had the task of managing its hotmail.co.uk domain - overlooked this vital piece of administration.
