Wie die "Hamburger Morgenpost" berichtet, habe Bohlen in seiner Villa in Tötensen bei Hamburg in der Nacht zum Dienstag mit einer Waffe auf Polizisten geschossen. Eine Bekannte eines Sohnes von Bohlen habe nach Auskunft der Staatsanwaltschaft Stade der Polizei telefonisch mitgeteilt, einer von Bohlens Söhnen befinde sich in der Villa des Vaters in akuter Lebensgefahr. Sie selbst will ebenfalls durch einen Anruf alarmiert worden sein.

Der Start der Ariane-5-Trägerrakete, die einen neuen Wettersatelliten ins All bringen sollte, ist in der Nacht zum Mittwoch abgebrochen worden.

Mit der Ariane-Rakete sollte der erste Wettersatellit der neuen Generation MSG in den Weltraum gebracht werden. Naturkatastrophen, aber auch der alltägliche Regenschauer, sollen damit deutlich früher zu erkennen zu sein.
Jede Viertelstunde funken MSG-Satelliten Bilder zur Erde - doppelt so häufig wie die Wettersatelliten der ersten Generation. Der 475 Mio. Euro (rund 688 Mio. Franken) teure Satellit soll nun in voraussichtlich in der Nacht zum Donnerstag in die Umlaufbahn gebracht werden.

Bayer selling former Alka-Seltzer factory for $1 The Associated Press
ELKHART, Ind. (August 28, 5:49 a.m. ADT) - Bayer Corp. is selling a former Alka-Seltzer factory for less than you would pay for a box of the fizzing tablets - $1. But whoever buys the building may need to stock up on the tablets because its $6 million to $7 million a year in maintenance costs could give anyone a case of indigestion.
For Elkhart Mayor Dave Miller, though, the news helped ease any concerns he had about the site.
"Bayer's willingness to essentially give the building to a qualified operator is probably the best news for the city of Elkhart," Miller said.
The building has 933,000 square feet of space and includes space for manufacturing, laboratories, offices. It also includes large refrigeration units that could be used for a company working with foods, said Joe Martin, senior vice president and general manager for Bayer Diagnostics. "The benefit for the city is that they'd be able to get someone to come in and occupy that space and bring in employment and taxes at a low cost to them," Martin said. Bayer would save the cost of maintaining the building, as well as the $20 million it would cost to demolish. "So it's really a win-win situation for everybody," Martin said.

P F U I - Thai government may produce 'nauseous' drugs as a deterrent
Thailand's government may circulate fake drugs to put users off by making them sick.
Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra says the speed pills will make the drug unattractive and scare people off using them.
The Bangkok Post says the idea was proposed by Sitha Thiwaree, secretary to the deputy defence minister.
He told a drugs seminar the mainstream drug market will be destroyed by flooding it with the fake drugs at low prices or even free of charge.
The prime minister says the suggestion was made "in jest" but should still be considered by the Public Health Ministry .
Other ideas included rewarding informants who helped in drug busts, legalising softer drugs and using the assets seized from drug traffickers to finance anti-drugs operations. (via ANANOVA)
