Neue Hiobsbotschaften aus Japan: Eine weitere Explosion und ein neuer Brand im Krisen-Atomkraftwerk Fukushima machen die Lage immer gefährlicher. Angesichts widersprüchlicher Aussagen ist unklar, ob der Reaktor 2 selbst leck ist. Doch die radioaktive Strahlung in der Umgebung steigt dramatisch. Die Regierung spricht bereits von einem „für die Gesundheit gefährlichen“ Ausmaß. Und auch in Tokio breitet sich die Angst aus: Weil der Wind drehte, treibt die radioaktive Wolke nun auf die Hauptstadt zu. Dort wurden bereits leicht erhöhte Strahlenwerte gemessen.

NHK: At reactor number 2, fuel rods have been fully exposed again.
Tokyo Electric Power Company is battling to cool a reactor to prevent another explosion at its nuclear power plant in quake-hit Fukushima Prefecture.
The utility firm said on Monday afternoon that fuel rods are exposed at the Number Two reactor of its Fukushima Number One plant after the level of coolant water dropped. At around 6:20pm, the power company began pumping in seawater.

Reactor reaction wipes $1.5bn from uranium holdings
MORE than $1.5 billion was wiped off the value of uranium stocks yesterday as the market reacted savagely to the nuclear crisis unfolding in Japan.
As explosions rocked Japan's ailing Fukushima nuclear plant, the market seemed convinced the incident would harm ambitions for uranium to play a bigger role in energy production around the world.
Diversified miners like BHP Billiton and Rio Tinto escaped the worst of the market punishment yesterday, despite being substantial uranium producers.

NISA officials also report that reactor no. 2 at Daiichi plant has lost its cooling ability and pressure is rising.
The news came as Japanese officials issued and then quickly canceled a tsunami warning, following aftershocks along the already earthquake-ravaged eastern coast of the nation.
Japanese authorities have been working frantically to prevent a meltdown at a series of nuclear reactors in Fukushima. The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission has sent two of its officials with expertise in boiling water nuclear reactors.

Die Katastrophe in Japan nimmt immer dramatischere Dimensionen an: Nach einem heftigen Nachbeben mit anschließender neuer Tsunami-Warnung erschütterte am Montag eine zweite Explosion in einem Atomreaktor das Unglückskraftwerk in Fukushima. Nach Angaben der Regierung soll die Stahlhülle des Reaktorblocks 3 aber standgehalten haben.

Nuke crisis raises many questions, no easy answers
The nuclear crisis in Japan has developed rapidly on many fronts, making it difficult to track the threads. What are the dangers? Will the situation improve? Can the reactors be cooled?
The crisis began Friday when a magnitude-8.9 earthquake and tsunami cut off regular electricity to the oldest unit at the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear complex, 170 miles (270 kilometers) northeast of Tokyo.

What appears to be another hydrogen blast has occurred at a nuclear power plant in Fukushima. No damage to the reactor chamber has been reported, but 11 people have been injured.

Cooling system pump stops at Tokai No.2 plant
The Tōkai Nuclear Power Plant (東海発電所, Tōkai hatsudensho?, Tōkai NPP) was Japan's first nuclear power plant. It was built in the early 1960s to the British Magnox design, and generated power from 1966 until it was decommissioned in 1998. A second nuclear plant, built at the site in the 1970s, was the first in Japan to produce over 1000 MW of electricity, and still produces power as of 2009. The site is located in Tokai in the Naka District in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan and is operated by the Japan Atomic Power Company.
