Monsanto zieht Gentechnik-Anträge in EU zurück
Monsanto gibt sich geschlagen: Der US-Konzern will seine Anträge für Gen-Pflanzen in der EU zurückziehen. Der Grund sei die fehlende kommerzielle Perspektive.
Der US-Agrarkonzern Monsanto zieht alle ausstehenden Zulassungsanträge für den Anbau gentechnisch veränderter Nutzpflanzen in der Europäischen Union zurück. Grund sei die fehlende kommerzielle Perspektive, sagte der für Europa zuständige Manager Jose Manuel Madero. "Wir werden die Anträge in den kommenden Monaten zurücknehmen."
Betroffen seien fünf Anträge für genetisch veränderten Mais, einer für Sojabohnen und einer für Zuckerrüben. Dagegen werde man weiter eine Erneuerung der Zulassung für die Maissorte MON810 anstreben. Sie ist bislang die einzige genetische veränderte Nutzpflanze, die kommerziell in Europa angebaut wird. Ein Sprecher der EU-Kommission bestätigte, dass Monsanto die EU über die Pläne unterrichtet habe.

European Patent Office grants Monsanto patent on natural broccoli seeds, florets
Monsanto's efforts to usher genetically-modified organisms (GMOs) into the European Union (EU) have been largely stagnant in recent years, so the multinational corporation and others in the industry are taking a new and more evil approach to gain more market control. According to a recent announcement put forth by the human rights advocacy group No Patents on Seeds!, the European Patent Office (EPO) is now granting biotechnology companies patents on all-natural crops such as broccoli, which was recently handed over as private property to Monsanto.

Monsanto's Game Over: Extreme Toxicity of Roundup Destroys Justification for GM Agriculture
If Monsanto's Roundup herbicide were actually 'safer than table salt' as they once advertised, the consumption of GM food wouldn't be nearly as controversial. The truth, however, is that virtually all GM food today contains residues of this toxic chemical, which disproves that GM and non-GM foods are "substantially equivalent," which is the primary doctrinal justification behind why GM foods are not properly safety tested and millions in this country eating them are living and breathing guinea pigs.
There was a time when Monsanto claimed their patented herbicide Roundup was "safer than table salt" and "practically nontoxic," and aggressively marketed this message until 1996, when they were ordered by Dennis C. Vacco, the Attorney General of New York, to pull the ads.

Monsanto gewinnt Lebensmittelpreis für genmanipuliertes Saatgut
Er gilt als Oscar der Nahrungsmittelbranche: Der Monsanto-Manager, der seit Jahrzehnten genmanipuliertes Saatgut entwickelt, bekommt den World Food Prize. Einer der Spender hinter der Stiftung heißt - Monsanto.
Robert Fraley, hochrangiger Mitarbeiter des Konzerns Monsanto, ist mit dem World Food Prize ausgezeichnet worden. Gemeinsam mit zwei anderen Wissenschaftlern, dem Belgier Marc Van Montagu und Mary-Dell Chilton aus den USA, gewann der Pionier der Biotechnologie den mit 250.000 Dollar dotierten Preis.

The proposed bill prohibits GMO food producers from using keywords like “natural,” “naturally made,” “naturally grown,” and “all natural” to describe GMO ingredients and products. The National Conference of State Legislatures reported that nearly 20 states were considering similar programs. Public surveys show a whopping 90 percent of the U.S. in favor of such practices.</p>

Archäologen haben in der chinesischen Provinz Jiangxi die bisher ältesten Keramiken der Welt ausgegraben. Sie wurden bei Ausgrabungen in einer Höhle entdeckt und sind rund 20.000 Jahre alt. Damit sei nun endgültig sicher, dass die Töpferei nicht - wie lange Zeit angenommen - erst mit Beginn der Landwirtschaft vor etwa 10.000 Jahren aufgekommen sei, berichtet ein internationales Forscherteam im Fachblatt „Science“.

Vast Majority of Americans Want Meat Raised Without Antibiotics
Americans are under threat from antibiotic-resistant superbugs, making us vulnerable to common, once treatable infections. A remarkable 80 percent of antibiotics sold in the U.S. are used not by humans, but by the meat and poultry industries so factory farm animals can grow faster and survive crowded and unsanitary conditions.
This is creating superbugs on the farm, and humans are exposed in a number of ways, including when we handle or eat undercooked meat. Our life-saving drugs are becoming less effective when we really need them. Unfortunately, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has refused to take meaningful action to restrict the use of unnecessary antibiotics in livestock production.
