Colonel Qaddafi Secretly Moved $4.8 Billion Of His Own Money To London Last Week

Despite claims that he would fight to the death on Libyan soil, Muammar el-Qaddafi transferred $4.8 billion of his personal holdings to London's Mayfair private wealth manager last week, according to The Times (via @sultanalqassemi).

The secret transfer was identified by the UK Treasury, which has said it will freeze all Qaddafi family assets in the country -- which already equaled around $32 billion.

Rebel army may be formed as Tripoli fails to oust Gaddafi

Army leaders in eastern Libya who have turned against Col. Moammar Gaddafi's regime are preparing to dispatch a rebel force to Tripoli to support the beleaguered uprising there, a top military official said Saturday in Benghazi.

Brig. Gen. Ahmed Gatrani said a small force comprising army defectors and rebels has already reached the outskirts of the capital, where an attempt to oust Gaddafi on Friday was crushed by pro-regime paramilitaries and soldiers firing indiscriminately at protesters on the streets.

Gaddafi forces abandon parts of Tripoli

World powers struggled to find a way to stop Libyan leader Muammer Gaddafi lashing out at his people as he clings to power in Tripoli, the last big city where an uprising against his rule has yet to take hold.

President Barack Obama signed an order prohibiting transactions related to Libya and blocking property, the first major step to isolate the North African leader, who has used army, police and irregular forces to try to crush the protests.

Gaddafi-Tochter in Wien?

Etwa 15 kamen.

Libya: ICRC launches emergency appeal as humanitarian situation deteriorates

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has launched a preliminary emergency appeal for 6 million Swiss francs ($6.4 million USD / €4.7 million) to meet the emergency needs of people affected by the violent unrest in Libya.

This initial appeal is intended to ensure adequate surgical and medical care for the wounded and emergency aid for people who have fled from Libya into neighbouring Tunisia and Egypt.
