Shrimps are army's secret weapon
Shrimp shells and vinegar may become staples for U.S. Army troops in Iraq -- not as rations but in a new bandage that staunches heavy bleeding in minutes.
A team of Portland, Oregon-based scientists searching for a solution to an age-old problem -- how to keep soldiers from bleeding to death on the battlefield -- stumbled on the kitchen pantry combination and, through high-tech wizardry, turned it into a super-sticky, combat-ready field dressing.

Soldiers pot plants amid nuclear crisis
While the world wonders whether North Korea is trying to develop nuclear weapons, a team of North Korean soldiers has nurtured more than 1,000 perennial begonias named after the country's leader, Kim Jong-il.
North Korea's official KCNA news agency said on Thursday the soldiers from a defence ministry hothouse put on the "kimjongilia" flower show this week as a tribute to Kim, whose 61st birthday falls on February 16.
"Put on display were over 1,000 potted kimjongilias cultivated with care by servicemen of the Korean People's Army in profound reverence for the supreme commander," it said.

U.S.: Tape, Photos Show Iraq Defies U.N.
Secretary of State Colin Powell, methodically making his case that Iraq has defied all demands that it disarm, presented tape recordings, satellite photos and informants' statements Wednesday that he said constituted "irrefutable and undeniable" evidence that Saddam Hussein is concealing weapons of mass destruction. "Clearly, Saddam will stop at nothing until something stops him," Powell told a skeptical U.N. Security Council, saying Baghdad's denials represent a "web of lies."

Saddam's bodyguard warns of secret arsenal
SADDAM Hussein's senior bodyguard has fled with details of Iraq's secret arsenal.
His revelations have supported US President George W. Bush's claim there is enough evidence from UN inspectors to justify going to war.
Abu Hamdi Mahmoud has provided Israeli intelligence with a list of sites that the inspectors have not visited.
They include:
AN underground chemical weapons facility at the southern end of the Jadray Peninsula in Baghdad;
A SCUD assembly area near Ramadi. The missiles come from North Korea;
TWO underground bunkers in Iraq's Western Desert. These contain biological weapons.

US Says It Can Prove Iraq Has Banned Weapons
The United States said on Friday it had "very convincing evidence" Iraq possessed banned weapons as a transatlantic rift widened over whether Baghdad should be disarmed by force. U.S. Undersecretary of State John Bolton, Washington's top arms control diplomat, said Iraq has maintained an extensive program for the production of weapons of mass destruction, including long-range ballistic missiles banned since the 1991 Gulf War.

The war after next
The war machine of the future is on its way. Unstoppable and invulnerable, it moves at terrifying speed, giving opponents no time to react. Enemies will not even see their human opponents, just a front line bristling with robots, unmanned aircraft and remote sensors.
This is the US army's future combat system (FCS), which will reach a critical decision point in April. If it is judged successful, within just five years the US will field a revolutionary new force.
